If you are in the states contact the AKG parts department, they'll deal with you directly. Not sure if they'd have K7XX pads but I'm sure they'll have the K712 ones at least (which should be close enough).

It is my understanding these are the exact same part.  As well as late Annies.

They are all memory foam, and flat (K712, late annie, k7xx), as opposed to the angled, stiffer material used on Q701's and K701's.
I have a tiny hint of touching with the K7XX pads, so I'm inclined to like the angled pads better off that alone.  But the memory foam does influence sound in a darker direction, for any AKG phone you put those newer pads on.

They are memory foam, I believe they are the same, though there could be some variation throughout time.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I gather these headphones are brighter than the DT880's, but less bright than the DT990's?

Depends on what your definition of bright is. DT880's have bit more presence than the Q's at the 8~10K region at the higher regions of treble, while AKG's have a peak at 2k (which brings things like vocals and guitars forward which one may find vivid and "bright") and then a bit more presence around 6-7k region than the DT880's. Both are definitely less bright than the DT990's.

Subjecively I find the Q701 brighter than the DT880.
Never compared the Q701 to the DT990, (I've compared the DT880 to the DT990).
DT990 sounds like the DT880 if you take a pair of DT880 and turn up the bass and treble.

It's been a while, but I've been back to my Q701-ZU Möbius II-Schiit Magni-ZU Mission-iPod Touch 2G setup and I haven't heard anything better this side of $500 + amp. They are my go to for electronic / EDM. Comparing these to the AT AD900's that I use frequently, they still beat them when properly powered. Such a strong soundstage and not as harsh with treble. The 900's hit a rough treble spike around 10k-12k hz, for me at least, consistently. Anyway, there is my update... After over a year!
