Q701 impressions thread

My friend has the recon, I didn't see any improvement with that.

Doesn't surprise me.  My Omni was noticeably better sounding than my Recon.  There's a reason I got my Recon for $5.  :-D

Thanks for the info. So you find the q701 to be a lot more comfortable to wear than the HE400? The one thing about the HE400 is that they do feel a bit heavy at times and I have to EQ to tone down the harsh treble.

This thread is flooded with complaints about the Q701's all headband. Other than that it is more comfortable than the HE400. I've not had any problems with the Q's treble except for really bad recordings.

I have read about that in the past when I was first looking into the Q701. I am curious if the headband is similar to the one found on the vmoda M80 as that one really bothers year. Yes those are on ear but curious if it applies pressure similar to that. The HE400 are a bit heavy at first but after having them on I seem to get used to the weight.

Now to decide as the Q701 have been on a list for some time after I experienced the harsh treble from the HE400.

It's not the clamping pressure that's the problem but the acute burning sensation where the middle bumps touch the head.

I've owned the V-Moda LP2. The Q701 is an all around comfort upgrade; the bumps are the only real problem. Clamping is pretty light IMO, and the earpads are miles better than V-Moda's. I've seen people cut the bumps out, but I have yet to do so.

These would not sound great with the E17. They do complement the HE400 well. I sold mine after getting the AKG because I don't listen to a lot of electronic music and the Q701 sounding better at everything besides that kind of music.

They will sound fine with the E17, I ran mine off of one on the medium gain setting for quite a few months. It won't sound 100% as good as it can, but it's fine.

When I used these with my X3 (same dac and amp as the E17), the bass was anemic and highs were fatiguing. I had no such problems with my other amps.

Yea, maybe, I don't remember exactly how it sounded, but it was still better than the headphone jack of my laptop or my smartphone. I'm sure the Magni/Modi combo is better for the money, but the E17 is hard to beat at it's price.

I agree with jasonb, it does the job. It might not be perfect, but for a portable solution it works. :D

For a portable amp I'd rather just use a E12 and punt on the DAC.

+1

I just got my Q701 yesterday and prefer the e12 over the x3 so far. The Magni however is nothing short of amazing with them. Really brings out the bass. More testing to be done.....

I'm curious why with the release of K712 and K702 anniversary that you decided to buy the Q701 instead.  I'm not bashing and don't want to be criticizing, I just want to know why.  They should sound different, I totally understand why say someone would choose a HD600, a more neutral headphone than the relaxed, warm, dark, but musical and in a way more fun HD650, (Sennheiser even says they were made for two different types of listening, analytical careful listening vs long term, comfortable listening, enjoyment).

I'm hoping it's not anything to do with price since K712/K702-Anniversary aren't that much more if you look for a good deal.

Are you asking me?

If so the Annie's are not available over here and the k712 are $200 more than the q701.

I'm asking anyone who has bought the Q701 in the last few years since K712 and K702-65 been released.  For you it was a price issue?

I just want to read some who have compared/auditioned and made the decision I prefer the sound of Q701 and if they don't mind, list those reasons.  It's curiosity. I don't think anyone has to justify their purchase mind you.
