Professional vs Home: Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro vs Beyerdynamic Amiron Home

I have tried amiron home, 1990 mod to balance and 1770 original and I would like to admit that amiron home could be the best scaling with amp and balancing, may be for some reduction in FR and sensitivity then pumping more power will make it shine. Nice :)

Just got the Amiron, so far, pretty laid back, but honestly, not blown away...as was hoping to. Sony MDR-Z7 so far the best all rounder for me, followed by Hifiman Sundara, equalled by LCD-2, in terms of pure sound that is.
Also got the Impacto Universal, this on the other hand is wonderful, especially keeping in mind it is 12g and costs 1/4 of my Sony PHA-3AC. See photos.

Maybe I hear too loud but to me the Amiron are distorting at high volume. Also, comfort is VERY good so far. Soundstage pretty good too. Just does not have that Oomph..bit too laid back for my taste.

^ Agree, the Amiron to me is just too mellow and the bass is a bit slow and lacks articulation and attack when needed, the DT1990 is overall much better but there is something special about the mids on certain music that sounds very good on the Amiron.

I absolutely love my DT1990 Pro's. By far the best headphones I own.
I wouldnt say im like super sound engineer knowledgable in headphones but, these sound great.
I have a modest collection of headphones

B&W P7(wired)
B&O H6 (2nd Gen)
AKG K712Pro (sold for money to buy other headphones)
Fostex TH900 Mk.2 (used AKG money to pay for some of this)
STAX SR-L700 (I had to borrow my friends Stax amp to use mine, but he got me a SRM-353XBK amp for 700$ and now i have my own stax amp.)

My Next headphones might be the Hifiman Sundara, but to be honest, I always find myself magically having the DT1990 Pro's on my head whenever im on my PC or DAP.
They're absolutely great. i seriously think everyone should own a DT1990 Pro's.

^ I have the Sundara 2 weeks now and today I got the DT1990 (for the second time) and I must say that I am enjoying the 1990 more this time (but early days).

I hope to give my early impressions on them both tomorrow (or by Wednesday) so you might be interested to hear them.

What do you think of the B&O H6 (2nd Gen), I head them once for a short time but thought that they sounded good but they played it a bit too safe like the Amirom?

They're quite good for public transport and basic walk about in the city.
I don't really use the B&O H6(2ndG) at home as I have arguably better headphones.
I pair the H6 with my FiiO X5 Gen 3 for my commute to work and such.

It's very weird, for some songs the H6 i would say sounds better than the P7's.
and some songs the P7s outshine the H6.

I've never heard the Amiron, so i wouldn't be able to compare it fairly, but I have logged more than 8 months with the B&O H6. and they're great! I wouldn't sell or give my pair away, and would be sad if they broke as B&O discontinued this model.
I Think B&O are going more for Wireless+NC headphones now. which I dont mind so long as they include a 3.5 port so i can use them wired, however it does boost the price of the cans despite not using the wireless+nc feature.

If you get a chance, listen to the H6s (2ndG) with proper amperage, they sound(to me at least) clean, smooth, light and decent sound stage with moderate pinpoint accuracy of instruments/vocals. they are quite comfortable for long hours, however the seal might not be the absolute word in isolation. I can still hear cars/tube/people in the background, but not much.

Would you guys cosider either of these a good and direct upgrade from the he 400i? If it matters I tried the he 560s and didn't find the upgrade to be worth the price difference (even at $350)
Just stepping sideways into this conversation,
I think that the Amiron Home is a "good and direct"
upgrade from the HiFiMan 400i.
The Amiron's sound is more natural and detailed.
It's fuller, and more complete.
Also, the Amirons appear to have much better build
quality, and they're far more comfortable as well.

Neither the Amiron nor DT1990 share anything in common with the DT990, sound signature wise. They’re both closer to the DT880 in most aspects, with the Amiron being more laid back, especially in the treble. The 1990 has a similar bass response to my ears as the 990, but has much nicer mids, and prominent yet smooth highs like the DT880.

After having nearly every modern beyerdynamic headphone - my personal favorite is the DT880/600. Even over the other two mentioned here. It’s just magical to my ears and does nothing wrong. YMMV
Having the Amiron Home, and having had the T90, the DT880 Pro, and several other Beyers,
I'm leaning towards agreeing with you on this - only not the 600, but the 250.

Listening to Amiron @ 2 AM in bed while typing this. Returning to Amazon tomorrow so thought one last listen before I bid it farewell. Somehow I feel that these headphones sound VERY good when listened to at low to mid volume. But at high volume they just don't feel right to me somehow.... ergo returning. Could be just me though..

Hey buntyster, this headphone responds to EQ better than any headphone I have ever tested. Give this EQ a try that I created for the Amiron Home. I think you will be very impressed. It sounds absolutely amazing.

Pre-Amplfying: - 2

63Hz: + 0.5
100Hz: - 1
125Hz: - 1
160Hz: - 1
200Hz: - 1
250Hz: - 1
315Hz: - 1
1kHz: + 0.5
1.25kHz: + 1
1.6kHz: + 1
2kHz: + 1
2.5kHz: + 1
3.15kHz: + 1
4kHz: + 1
8kHz: - 0.5
10kHz: + 0.5

This is a very very conservative EQ, I consider Meze 99C to respond well to EQ, but they take around + 16 dB of 16 kHz treble, so that is quite the large amount of EQ.

At this fine tuning, you seem to like a more mid-centric signature, maybe like Etymotic IEMs provide.

It is not exactly that I want a more mid-centric signature. The Amiron Home is a great headphone. In fact, I think it is one of the best currently available at 600 US. However, its mid bass is a bit too forward, and the mids are somewhat recessed recessed at stock. With the EQ set I use, I find it makes the headphone sound much more balanced. With the slight reduction in the mid bass, the detail retrieval of the headphone becomes even better as well.
