Professional vs Home: Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro vs Beyerdynamic Amiron Home
Mar 26, 2018 at 5:07 AM Post #166 of 381
Hey buntyster, this headphone responds to EQ better than any headphone I have ever tested. Give this EQ a try that I created for the Amiron Home. I think you will be very impressed. It sounds absolutely amazing.

Pre-Amplifying: - 2

63Hz: + 0.5
100Hz: - 1
125Hz: - 1
160Hz: - 1
200Hz: - 1
250Hz: - 1
315Hz: - 1
1kHz: + 1
1.25kHz: + 1.5
1.6kHz: + 1.5
2kHz: + 1.5
2.5kHz: + 1.5
3.15kHz: + 1.5
4kHz: + 2
5kHz: + 0.5
8kHz: - 0.5

Thank you. I dont have a dedicated day/amp which has an equalizer. My source is the LG v30 or my MacBook pro. Any software for EQ you can recommend ?

I feel it's a minor thing, but it bothers me somehow.
Which is that the 1990's are shipped with two sets of pads,
which supposedly create different signatures.
I don't want to be swapping earpads regularly when I'm
listening to different recordings - plus thinking about which
earpad to use as I'm about to do some listening.

To me, this is something that Beyer should have sorted out.
Instead, it seems, the powers that be over there (IBTW, I do
have a lot of respect for the company) were having some trouble
making a decision, so they came up with a "solution" > "Hey, let
the customers decide."

One of the reasons we're paying $600.
a pop for these is for the engineers and designers at Beyer to
turn out an outstanding finished product.
In my view, the 1990 Pro they've "given" us is not a finished
product. It takes the process up to a point, and then says
"OK, you finish it with these nice earpads we've enclosed
for you."

Anyway, the whole world seems to love them, pretty much,
so I'm quite sure I'm in the minority on this. But it does
bother me so I bought the Amirons. Which I like very
much.

That's actually a big reason I settled with the Amiron out of the two in the end. I liked the DT 1990, but what I wanted was a blend of the two pads sonically and interestingly I found the Amiron to do that to a degree, still different of course. Not to mention I found an even better Beyer than either, not the T1.2 as I had issues with it's treble so I let it go, but rather the DT 480, which while it needs modding is without the question the best Beyer(and headphone) I've owned in terms of driver fidelity and potential.

Oh no.... the belt I purchased has a few holes in it so I can adjust it to my preferred size. I want to return it for one that is finished in my exact size and colour of choice.

p.s. I love the fact that Beyerdynamic offer you 2 slightly different sound signatures in one headphone. The earpads are super easy to change. The DT1770 comes with pleather and velour, which also alter the sound. The Mr Speakers Aeon are not finished, neither are the VOCE, or the Campire Audio Cascade as they all have bits of foam or filters you can either put in or take out to change the sound slightly. While you are at it, remove all EQ from all players and devices, and volume settings, and headband adjustments.

Actually, why not pick the one that is more comfortable? I end up doing this even if it has a small detriment on the SQ sometimes, I need to keep things on my head for hours, so I tend to go for what has best comfort - performance value :)

For anyone in Canada, Amazon.ca currently has the Amiron Home for only 583.59 Canadian. This is only 463.48 US. This is the lowest price in Canada I have ever seen. Hopefully someone in Canada will dive in and grab this headphone. This is an awesome deal. It may very well be a pricing error.

Wow, as you point out, this is really a pricing bargain.
I paid just about 6 bills for mine very recently on amazon usa.

(Although I guess I should add that they did not impress me
to the extent I thought they would, and returned them.)

Thats really good pricing, im from Canada and can vouch for that. the audio stores in my city (montreal) charge way more for the Amiron. however, having heard the Amiron recently i still greatly prefer my DT1990 Pros. they just sound much cleaner and crisper. but again, that could be down to my personal preference and taste in music. also the source was diffirent when i tried the Amiron, i think they were using the Cayin amp/dac setup.

Hello.

I have been doing some research for a few days now and my choices are down to the DT1990, Amiron Home, and Hifiman Sundara. I will be driving them with my Audio GD R2R 11 amp/dac.

Any recommendations on which might pair best with the R2R 11? Looking for something to use for multimedia purposes (TV/Movies/podcast listening) as well as first person immersive gaming. Music tastes are usually movie/gaming soundtracks, soft rock, and indie.

I get ear fatigue really easy, usually from really forward mids or high/harsh treble headphones. Used to own some DT990s, but sold them because of the fatigue issues. Also, the mids from my current Sennheiser HD6XX seem to be giving me ear fatigue when using with the R2R 11, only owned for a few weeks now, so I’ll probably be selling them soon as well.

Also comfort is a number one priority for me, I would like a headphone I can wear for hours with no issues. I can’t use my Hifiman HE-400s or Hifiman HE-500 for more than an hour without a headache.

Any recommendations would be awesome.

Thanks.
