I never even knew such a thing existed.

Still a WIP, but my 2nd gaming rig is coming along nicely, still have a little more work to do with cable management and organizing the drive bay, right now, my SSDs and HDD are haphazardly hanging all over the place!

My media server finally looks like a real server. lol.

There's no saving the cable management in this case, though. Specs:

Intel i5 4690k
32GB DDR3-1600
~21TB HDD storage

Suuuuper basic specs, but overkill for a simple Plex streaming server. I don't even convert video, just do direct play.

Sweet. I just upgraded to newer hardware, but was thinking about repurposing my i5 4690K, mobo, and ram to a media server. What OS are you using for the server?

I'm just using TrueNAS. I know basically nothing about how to use it, but setting it up is fairly straightforward. Any of the advanced features are entirely beyond me, though.

I settled on Linux Mint for mine late last year, but I always like to see what everyone else is running. Linux Mint was easy to setup. I'll likely keep using it for the new build. It is definitely a learning experience, though.

I run FreeBSD for my NAS, because I like zfs. I have a bunch of Sun SPARC rack servers that a company nearby was throwing out. I run Solaris 10 on them, and 8 and 9 in zones.

I would prefer to run my NAS on Solaris 10 but for some reason it refused to install on the box I'm using for my NAS, so FreeBSD was the next choice.

I had to read up on zfs & Solaris. Sounds like a robust system. That's cool you were able to salvage the rack servers. I don't have that many TB of data, and I just have a couple of drives in an HTPC style case.

I forgot to post the new build I finished up about a week ago. It's replacing an i5 4690K, 16GB DDR3, and a GTX970:

i5 12600K cpu + DeepCool AK620 cooler
Gigabyte Z690 Auros Elite AX mobo
32GB (2 x 16GB) G.Skill CL16 DDR4 3600
Intel ARC A770 gpu
Solidigm P44 Pro 1TB Gen 4 NVMe
Seasonic Focus 750W psu
Windows 11

That's the new stuff. I also have a 1TB Crucial sata SSD from the previous build. The case is a Cooler Master HAF XB Evo. The whole thing is really quiet. I haven't had time to test any gaming on it yet. This is my WFH PC, with the occasional game thrown in. I didn't mind going with the Arc card, as I think it will do everything I need at 1440p.

Microcenter had a great bundled deal on the mobo+cpu+gpu, so I was able to get those three things for around $580 pre-tax, which made the A770 $280. I thought it was a good deal. Hoping this one will last me 7+ years like the previous build has.

Very cool! What case is that?

It's a Sliger CX4170a. Kinda on the expensive side, but the quality is excellent.

The more I look at the pictures the more I want to try to cable manage it, but with a PSU that's all hard-wired, and so many odd SATA cables, I don't even know where I'd start. Hah.

After over 7 years of rocking with i5-4690K (during which I upgraded from 8GB RAM to 16GB and swapped GTX970 4GB Gaming to GTX1070 8GB Gaming) I made a huge jump and chose Mac Studio as my next desktop.

It's my first Mac, so upcoming weeks will definitely prove to be quite adventurous..

Alright, it's about 90% complete. No further pics.
Gonna get one more RGB fan for between the heatsink fins. Guess I might as well 'let there be light' there. Also, will replace the motherboard ATX 12V connectors with white cables. Turns out my Cablemod cables were the right length, but they can't bend enough to be comfortably placed into that position so close to the opening. I will get a couple cable extensions (white, of course) some day.

Just recently got the 12gen MSI Aegis with 4070ti with 12700kf or something. Outputting to LG C2 OLED G-sync 120hz VRR. I'm good for awhile. lol I realized new cards arn't that much of an improvement. I would still be happy with my old1080 GTX rig. It was a beast. I think when 1080 GTX came out was when Nvidia was at their best. And I hate their current practices.

4070ti is equivalent to a 3090, but it's the newest gen. I don't build PCs. I buy fully built systems. I don't have time to debug when something goes wrong. Way too much stress on $$ spent.
