Post your computer specs!~

Got one of those odd crashes I've been complaining about for the past two years just the other day, so I got some new SSDs, and I'm going to try a clean install of Win11.

After replacing the CPU, motherboard, RAM, PSU, HDD, and GPU, these are the last pieces to completely rebuild Theseus's ship.

🤷‍♂️
I hear Theseus's ship also failed because of Windows.

Good lord, what crashes are these? I take it you've checked your power to make sure it's good and use a UPS at this point? What case is this all in?

It's a really weird crash that causes all my fans to crank up to 100% speed, and they won't stop until I do a hard shut down. I've never run into this issue before, so troubleshooting it has been a tremendous headache. I'm hoping just going scorched earth on my drives and Windows will fix it.

Are your fans connected to a 3rd party controller or daisy chained to the mobo?

Nope, seems to be unrelated to them anyway, as lights on my video card and RAM go haywire as well.

Mostly fumbling in the dark, my best guess is that some sort of fault in my Windows installation caused it to not talk to the motherboard properly. Most times I didn't even get a BSOD on crash, just a simple lock-up, which suggests to me Windows didn't even have a best guess as to what happened. 🤷‍♂️

Hmm yeah maybe, could try a online repair with dism before nuking the whole thing. Also even if your ram is new I would still test it's stable with your current config with memtest86+.

I sold my "old" AMD 5950X / 128GB RAM / RTX 3090 build in the be quiet! Dark Base Pro 900 V.2.
I took that money and upgraded my other desktop PC - slapped in an "old" RTX 3080 into the 13700k build, and put the RTX 4090 into this:

bDq8njc.jpg

NOTE: IT IS A WORK IN PROGRESS. The cable management could be better, but the PSU has super long cables, and it was so difficult just getting the back panel to close. I purchased some measured CableMod white cables (24-pin; 2x 8-pin mobo; 6-pin PCIe; 16-pin 12VHPWR for GPU). That will make it much easier to manage, and it will "look prettier".
Sadly, they are under "renovations" until 6 February, and will start doing custom orders in the order they were placed. So it's gonna take a while.

Specs:
Fractal Design Torrent RGB white with clear tempered glass
PSU: be quiet! Dark Power Pro 12 1200w
Motherboard: Asus ROG CROSSHAIR X670E EXTREME
RAM: 64GB G.Skill TridentZ5 Neo 6000MHz (2x 32GB/CL-30-40-40-96 1.4v)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7900X
Noctua NH-D15 cooler
GPU: Gigabyte Geforce RTX 4090 GamingOC

Storage:
Seagate FireCuda 520 2TB M.2 Gen 4 NVMe (Win11 OS), and 2TB Western Digital SN850 Gen4 M.2 (Games); Samsung 4TB QVO 2.5" SSD (Storage)

Total cost for me, after selling the old build is $300.

Other components:
55" LG OLED C1 (side monitor)
48" LG OLED 120Hz 4k HDR monitor (primary display)

Corsair K95 keyboard
Razer Viper 8k mouse

I must say, this build was a real TURD to try and get working right. All the issues on the forums that people had using DDR5 Asus boards happened to me - and then some. Won't go into specifics because it's long, and boring. The cabling took a couple hours, but booting to Win11 with both RAM sticks - functioning at correct speed - took about 6 hours. Went to bed at 1:30am. I get up at 5:20am haha
It's just that, if I have a computer issue, I stick to it like a stubborn badger locked on its prey. I have a hard time stopping until I figure it out. It was fun!! :D

I'm the same way. Keep going till you figure it out.

But sometimes a good rest and sleep is what you need to clear your head.

How is this for a weird setup.
I'm not a PC gamer and use this for my office.

Intel i5-12400 (12th gen)
16GB Ram
Onboard video
Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB - Main Boot. Never once even came close to running out of room for apps (!).
1TB Western Digital NVME - Too lazy to convert it to main.
Plextor 16X DVD Burner X2
MSI Z-690-A DDR4 Motherboard
WDC WD80EMZZ-11B4FB0 8001.5 GB
WDC WD80EMAZ-00WJTA0 8001.5 GB
WDC WD120EDAZ-11F3RA0 12000.1 GB
WDC WD120EDGZ-11B1PA1 12000.1 GB
WDC WD4000FYYZ-01UL1B3 4000.7 GB

I guess I am a hard drive collector!

Recently upgraded from a Core I3-6100 in Summer of 2022.
What surprised me the most is how much slower boot times have gotten due to the new BIOS settings etc.
Takes me 30 seconds just to see the Windows 10 logo.

PS I forgot to mention i've finally upgraded to a Mechanical Keyboard too! I'm so outdated with technology!
I hate the clicky-clacky sound so I bought a low profile one with brown switches for $25. Not bad!
Somehow I just have always preferred crappy Membrane keyboards. My last one was a Saitek Eclipse and lasted about 6 years!
It's annoying how you need to watch hours of Youtube videos just to find the correct switches for a keyboard based on your preferred click type lol.

Buckling spring keyboards have been around since the late 1960s, I think.
