I have a pair of PX100II coming to build myself a wooden jazz headphone (SennGrado), so if you're inclined to modding, the PX goes a long way.
As to the headband comfort: Sennheiser has self-adhesive cushions for the HD series that I attached to the vinyl of my Grado SR60i. There's lots to get, either self-adhesive cushions or wraparound cushions for the Beyerdynamic DT770/880 headphones that fit Grado as well as a host of other headphones.
