What is your source?  Its from my experience that the 840 is very easy to drive headphone and doesn't benefit from an amp.  Its incredible how well my Sony mp3 player drives those phones.

Couldn't have said it better myself, you would not see much/if any difference in SQ by running these through an expensive amp. Why spend $300 on an amp when the headphones cost half that and do fine without it? Plug em' in and enjoy their neutral bliss

I only have a Fiio E5 for my 840's and although there's a difference I'd be hard pushed to say it's a better difference. They're really pretty easy to drive in my opinion.

I tried a pair of 840's out of my A818 and they sounded boring and lifeless!! Had to turn the volume up quite high aswell...
