Whiplash but the real Whiplash has been out of business for a few years.
Oy… thank you!

Gold plated cables for full size headphone seems to be a rare option anywhere I look. Will keep looking…

It is very expensive to do gold plated silver correctly. The cables were 7 to 8 hundred a each.

There are no expensive cables around, like palladium plated, so it seems that gold plating has just waned in popularity for some reason(?)

I don't think so. It is the process. The cables, for what they cost, should have sold for 3 times as much. Most do not understand the correct thickness of the gold. The company in Europe that made the wire knew how to do it and it was extremely costly.

I don't know about SEM1 in specific (which, by chance, I'm listening to as I type..) but few folks on head-fi have generally recommended Vesper Audio for high quality custom ear pads. May be worth checking them out (no personal experience): https://vesperaudio.com/

Yes, someone sent his pair there to have the earpads replaced with quality leather ones.
Waiting to see the results.👍

That was me and my set. Sorry, still no time for pictures.

I can say that based on my checking, they're pretty good. Very close to the OEM pads, solid quality, and a step up from the originals since they're real leather and memory foam. I don't know if they're the best out there, but I'm happy I bought 2 pairs.

I'd buy them again, no question.

I am glad it worked for you. I am still looking to buy a pair of SEM 1 at the right price. No doubt I will find it, even if I have to wait a while, and I wanted to know about the situation with the leather earpads.
Enjoy it in good health ! 👍😉

Apparently, Vesper Audio is based in Belarus. That will make it extremely difficult nowadays, taking into account the new economic sanctions.

Yeah, they're based there.

But they're not a huge business and a pair of leather ear pads only runs, what, $30-60? That could be sent personal package ground and likely have no issues.

Maybe, though? It's definitely not good news.

Not sure if many are willing to risk it now. Maybe in the future. Meanwhile maybe there are other companies in UK or Europe that can do the same thing. We just need to find them !
