If I were to use this 3.5 to 2.5 balenced adapter will it produce the improved sound of a ballenced cable or would the sound be degraded by the transition from 3.5 to 2.5 ballenced?

This is the adapter I'm considering: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01AFEBR4I/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=A364KLI3BZY8MZ&psc=1

It won't. You need balanced wiring

Ok. Good to know. I have a pair of Sennheiser HD580's that need a new cable. I was planning on getting a standard 3.5 replacement cable but then I saw this:

Would this be a viable option? If so, would I use a 4 pin XLR to 2.5 adapter to use this with the XDP 300R? would like to take advantage of the unbalanced option on my XDP but I'm trying to work with what I have if possible. Sennheiser HD580, and Audio Technica M50X are what I have right now.

I have been loving the 300R with my Campfire Vegas. A real dynamic duo.

The versatility of Android is also awesome. I downloaded the Netflix app and their new download to device feature allows me to watch movies and TV shows on the go without a internet connection :D

I just tried this, I'm on the test builds and have alpha build 703.

The volume levels are the same as the built in player with this version the sound quality is good too, I noticed a nice wide soundstage.

I do get an odd effect when increasing the volume, the level drops for a moment before increasing to the new level, lowering the volume is OK.

Same here with the volume control on PowerAmp Alpha, deactivating DVC (Dynamic Volume Control) should solve this, but has some other side effects, haven't bothered to try yet.
But please drop a request on the PowerAmp forum for HighRes support for the XDP-300R!

It would, or choose a cable which has the 2.5mm TRRS plug by default, like the cable below. (although more expensive you get rid of a bulky XLR connector and adapter in the chain)

The Sennheiser cable on ebay would work, if you could get an XLR to 2.5mm trrs adaptor.

The AT M50X would require a cable and a modification. http://www.instructables.com/id/Balanced-Headphones-for-About-130/

Just looks like a load of wires, would be nice if ya could get a cable that looks like one.

You can, just select the sleeve option in the drop down menu

This is perfect! I just ordered it. I want a cable with a default 2.5 plug but couldn't find one. Thank you for sharing this!

Where is the cheapest offer now? Does it store the Tidal offline content? Any problems with online tidal streaming? Anybody can suggest how it might pair with the HD800 with the pure silver balanced litz cable? Might too bright, I'm affraid... Thanks in advance.

XDP-300R is up on Amazon.co.jp for 60,000 Yen which is around $540ish

Also Pioneer XDP-100R is on sale on Newegg for $300

Both players offer Tidal Offline
