I'm down with minimalist setups and all, but how on earth do you even find what you want to listen to on that thing?

Even with total file control I usually just set shuffle and let my player do its thing. I mean I load all my players with everything I like, the way I see it I can’t loose and its just my DJ for the day.

Gotcha. I was thinking there was some sort of obscure sequence of button presses (kinda like a cheat code on an old SNES game) to select next album.

There are things to be said about not choosing your music yourself. One of my fav. features listening on my home server(s) is the random album function. Most of the time I'm way too apathetic to actually choose something myself, so I just let the UI pick for me. Sadly no portable devices (that I'm aware of anyways) have picked this feature up
