RS 8 really has an out of the head width for sound stage, really amazing.

The Head-Fi app has been acting weird after my phone got an update. Haven't been able to upload any images.
But I finally found a workaround lol
Here is an alternate view of the Triple Tube Setup.

It takes a special kind of DAP to drive a 600ohm pair of headphones playing iffy early 90s new age music without the need for an external amp.

That special DAP is the Acoustic Research AR-M2.

That special new age "artist" is David Arkenstone.

Interesting… don’t know this DAP. At least don’t hear about it and consistently discussed like the normally mentioned ones. But if it can do what you’re saying in powering full-size cans successfully on its own, it’s got my attention.

It's a DAP that has become somewhat "legendary" because of its unique presentation - which is authoritative, musical, wide soundstage, and yet precise- but is now hard to find because it's no longer produced. It's also the only DAP I've heard or owned that actually sounds like a desktop rig (big boys like the FiiO M17 didn't really do it for me, and even amps like the C9 were a bit lacking when it came to dynamics).

No problem with 600ohm dynamics like the Beyers, but also no issue with planars. I've been listening to this pairing this morning, which leaves me totally satisified. Check out the thread, a handful of enthusiasts including myself of this cult beauty.

Thanks for sharing! And I tend to agree with you. Despite all the advancements we have had, when I’ve heard DAPs and portable amps with my headphones, compared to my desktop setup, the gap is closing but is clearly still there.

I’d love to get to a point where this is common (DAP that can properly power inefficient headphones). Love my IEMs, but sometimes I want to be mobile without having something deeply inserted in my ears. One day hopefully.
