My first tube amp! The Ibasso Nunchaku. Tried a few other headphones, thinking the tubes might do something unexpected to them, but nah... Neumanns slay everything, as usual. Very impressed with the Nunchaku in tube mode with NOS filter, even before any burn in, which I've been told the tubes definitely benefit from. Detail, particularly in the treble, and soundstaging is great for a tiny dongle like this. Coming from my Go Bar Kensei, it doesn't sound either small or veiled, though it is less neutral, more to the musical side. Most certainly it has a more organic sound vs the Kensei, not just smoothed over, but actually analogue-ish. It definitely has that quality of never getting irritating at high volume, and will thus be excellent for genres like metal. Also, this thing is a tube amp, and runs way cooler than my Go Bars, that's pretty cool! 👍

This is the kit I like to grab if I’m driving and weight is not an issue.

Alright, my evil plans (two of them) have finally come together! And now I truly have some pics wild enough for this illustrious thread...

#1: The Mikey Rig (ya know, the nunchuck ninja turtle). Ibasso Nunchaku strapped to a dap whose usb is being filtered and refinaggled by the Ranko Acoustics RUF-XC. Ranko claims this tiny, heavy, brightly lit thing can not only clean up the usb, but also expand the soundstage. Awesome if true!

and #2... my Broccoli Rig is no more. end of a dynasty. but introducing: The Sock Rig !!!

That's an iFi iDSD Finale strapped to a dap, connected with a very expensive Nordost Frey 2 USB C Adapter cable with female usb A on one side, again with the dap's usb out being black magicked by the Ranko gadget. The Frey 2, like a lot of high end usb, ain't exactly flexible. The only way to get a wide enough loop was to both add extra space between the Finale and my dap, and add even more extra space on one side, putting the dap at an angle, not flat. This was accomplished by mangling a sock, sacrificing it dutifully unto the audio gods. This brutal sacrifice turns a merely "transportable" amp/dac into a complete True Portable Thing, small and lightweight enough to carry in one hand. I'm not just going to move it between different desks and countertops dude, I'm 100% gonna walk around with this thing, up and down the stairs, taking out the compost, washing dishes, take a break on my screen porch. Oh yeah!!!

Both of these two rigs need burn in (the Nunchaku's tubes and the Sock Rig's fancy USB cable) before I seriously evaluate their sound, but they sound awesome so far! 😀
