Technically, no. But an amp is *much* more effective at correcting the D2's shortcomings than a resistor adapter - a bit more detail and wider stage for a start from what I can tell, if it's not placebo.

The adapter is only used because the low gain isn't quite low enough for my fairly low listening volume so I use it on high gain with the adapter.

I'm experimenting anyway

I had the Mylarone X3/XB/X3i/XBi myself, and they all sounded better with an amp on the D2.

There can be a huge difference in the sound quality testing the same earphone amp’d VS not amp’d … you might even make bad sounding earphones sound much better.

It's a mutilated minidisc case

Just had to cut into it to let the volume knob through. Nice and handy since it case a belt clip on the back.
