I think there is a big difference not only in sound but price as well. I would be more likely to compare HE400's and AKG7XX's. I have several open backs already and why I chose the 553's, sound signature is close to the open back 702's but with a little less detail. If I were looking open back right now myself deciding between these two would be hard but would probably lean towards the HiFi-Man. I may not be the guy to ask, on the other hand I'm loving my 553's especially for the $119 I got them for
