When I was in college, I sat my chair between these speakers (DCM Time Windows), and they sounded quite good with the old Thorens turntable and cheap Apt Holman gear I had:

I'm guessing late 70's/early 80's and about the time I was selling my B.I.C. for some Advent.

Late 70's - back when I had to choose between partying money and audio money. Alan Parsons always sounded good that way, especially if I was properly buzzed. I had the big Advents before the DCM's, and after the DCM's, DQ-10's.

I'm still using my Polk SDA CRS from the mid 80's with no desire to get rid of them...
