Philips Fidelio X2?!

Long time reader – first time poster!

I've just purchased a pair of X2's and currently running them off a Xonar STX.

Things don't sound right, and I suspect it's due to the 10 ohm output impedance of the STX. Oddly enough it sounds great when plugged directly into an iMac – more definition in treble, tighter bass?

I'm looking for a suitable DAC/AMP – primarily for gaming and movies (I don't sit at my PC listening to music unless I'm working from home, and it's usually Spotify).

The Sound BlasterX G5 interests me – being 2.2 ohm and PS4 compatible, but I'm also looking at the Fiio E10K (I've heard the soundstage isn't that great). Anything around the $100-300 AUD mark.

Cheers!

I'm looking for this double Schiit Dac + Amp for my X2.
Dac modi 2 uber + Amp magni 2 = $ 248
Finds no better offer quality at this price schiit very good / great review.
But I'm open to suggestions from friends or offers used Please MP.

I personally like my Schiit stack. But I'm still in the beginning phases here, and don't really have anything to compare them to.

Being "Made in USA" was a big selling point to me, but may not be to other people.

I have the E10K paired with my X2s and I think its quite excellent. I recently had a chance to try them out on the a Schitt stack and only noticed marginal improvement. I have the SB G5 as well hooked to my Ps4. It sounds "ok" for me it kind of colors the sound a little and makes the bass a little to boomy. IMO.
The X2s are lower impedance so they don't benefit as much from an amp as say something like a HD650.

Would the jds labs c5d be enough?

Yes, it is good enough. A £50 DAC is light years better than not having a DAC. A £200 DAC is much better than a £50 DAC. There is another level up around £400-800, and another over £1000, but even a £8000 DAC is not the absolute TOTL.
So, yes, what I am trying to say I guess is "good enough" is different for everyone. And the most important factor that determines this is the thickness of your wallet.

Is there going to be a Fidelio X3 sometime soon?

I've noticed the price has gone from 280$ to 210$ in Sweden the past few months.
And a few places has stopped selling them.

There might be,
or some other replacement for the X2.
These big electronics companies must
continually turn out new product
Whatever does replace the X2 might not be as good -
then there will be a big scramble

I currently have a few good headphones, I use the x2 and ThXoo for gaming, and he500 for music. I was wandering is there a better gaming headphone than the X2. maybe T1? for pinpoint accuracy/ first person shooter.

AKG K7XX

I have the Beyer T1 and the X2 and the X2 is better at positional cues then the T1.

The X2 has better depth perception and an overall better presentation of dolby surround.

K7XX - X2 - MA900 are all exceptional gaming headphones. Equal grounds technicality wise IMO.

Is it worth to buy a decent amp? I have the Fiio E6, I'm thinking about upgrading to E10 (or something in that pricerange, any suggestions)? I notice that the sound is better, even with the Fiio E6, so I' wondering if it's worth it to upgrade it.

I say they are similar. X2 seem to have more mid bass and 990 have more down low. Been a while since I did a side by side but that's what I remember.

I say the opposite, X2 has more sub bass and DT990 more mid bass.
