I never had issues with my R8 except occasional inconsistent volume switching on the knob
only when the screen is locked, but can't speak for others
Regarding subbass from the W2; I wouldn't call it overwhelming, just takes slight precedence over midbass without bleeding into other frequencies. It extends very deep with excellent attack, decay and bite. On the other hand, W2 is not a lower-midrange focused synergy IMO. It definitely focuses more on the upper-mids, so male vocals and rock genres
could potentially suffer/be better suited with another source.
Edit: Just noticed your subbass comment is about R8, not W2. Ignore second paragraph then haha. Subbass is solid on R8 but not as emphasized as from W2.
