Removing the foam will result in a significant reduction of bass.
Thanks mate. Not something that I'd like to happen. Any alternatives to replace these? Mine's look already deformed and as I've mentioned, it disintegrates when I tried to lift it. Thought it was foam at first but was wrong.

Sorry, I don't know what else you could do. Removing those discs completely changes the sound signature. To my knowledge, all the other Fostex TH-X headphones have them too. I've owned the Denon AH-D2000, AH-D5000 and the Fostex TH-X00 Purpleheart, and they all had them.

You could look for a similarly dense foam, and if it ends up being less dense you can put a piece of tape over a few of the holes in the grill to make the inside of the cup more sealed and raise the bass back up to where it should be. If it's disintegrating it's likely not allowing the intended amount of venting from inside the cup anyway.
