I'm new in this forum and i?m from Italy so apologize for my bad english.
Can i ask a question?
The manual of th Dp-X1 says that I can't connect it in balanced mode at hearphones less than 32 ohm, but I want to buy an Hifiman Edition X V2 (25 Ohm) which can happen in a balanced connecting?
Amp damage?
The damage could also be connecting in AGC mode?
For now i taste it with Hifiman RE 600 in balanced and it sounds wonderfull.

Does not matter.

I'm gonna have to buy more 2.5mm TRRS male jacks, and build an adaptor to a 4-pin female XLR...
Thank way I can test & use my normal balanced headphone cables with this unit more easily

I don't recall off hand but its in here somewhere, they are wired the same as Astell and Kern. If you find this you'll find how's it suppose to be wired.

Here it is;

Naturally... Not sure what point you're trying to make, bud...

For me, the 2.5mm TRRS jack, with the R-/R+/L+/L- wiring didn't work for my DP-X1A...
Tried it on both my HD650 & SE846. sounded awful

As mentioned, I believe the DP-X1A's 2.5mm balanced jack's layout is: R-/L-/R+/L+ (according to the multi-meter & sound)
Can someone else also check and confirm please? -- Just in case I have purchased a bum-unit

I'm about to try this today, we'll see how it works on my hd650

Doesn't work for me :frowning2:

I desoldered the 2.5mm TRRS connector and mapped it by ear (with some left/right channel test tracks, as well as split a song into separate individual left & right tracks on Audacity)

This is the wiring, by colour, I used for the 2.5mm TRRS to the DP-X1A

This is the wiring, by colour, ro the 4Pin XLR female socket, that sounded correct

And if I map the 4Pin XLR's 'signal' by wiring colours to the 2.5mm TRRS of the DP-X1A, I get the below:

So, this is what seems to be working for me:

I'll get the mult-imeter out later, and test the polarity of the above mappings.
Perhaps it's an DP-X1A thing (?)

@fezzyness:Thank you Sir!..Please let me know how it works out on your DP-X1A

On Ebay for 25 euro you can get a 2.5 balanced Astell & Kern adaptor to XLR 4 pin... as I do...
The simple way is the right way...

I appreciate the advice, bud...

But as mentioned, the A&K wiring doesn't work for me...  Are you using a DP-X1A or a DP-X1 (non-'A')?
Cos, if it is the latter, then it could be different wiring for the DP-X1A version..
However, if it the prior, then I may have just purchased a bum DP-X1A unit :frowning2:

Need to understand that first... before making custom cables, etc. ( I try not to buy bespoke or boutique cables, when I can build them -- Shipping anything international to South Africa is a costly, long, painful experience when dealing with customs :frowning2: )

For DIY cable making, there is no QC, no testing machines, no burn in process. So I would suspect there is other cause instead a dpx1/dpx1a not using the AK standard.

Many of our owner group member ask what 2.5 balance cable to buy.

I would suggest the ONSO brand and ORB brand which are factory made and reasonable priced (80-160 usd).

Very strange mate. I've made a balanced cable for dp-x1 (not a) before and it was like the AK wiring. You're sure you're not getting confused with the reversal of the pin locations going from front to back?

I have to agree, there is only one way. Either his DAP is wired right or something else is going on with his headphones.

I don't know if the 2.5 connection is different between the "a" version from the standard version, but with these kind of equipment i'm afraid to do cables from myself...
a shortcut is always around the corner for me...
My two cents...

I used the contact numbers on the 4pin Female XLR... which are on both the back and front of the connector.
I hope it's not a bum-unit, but different wiring for the DP-X1A version.  Hope someone else can confirm.

Here's a video clip of my L-/R-/R+/L+ wiring driving an LCD-4 in balanced mode, with ample volume.

Since the last upgrade for mine DP-X1 the maximum volume is 159 instead 160... is it also for you all?
