Would there be any reason why setting the Lock Range Adjust to tighter than neutral would drain the battery more? Surely it takes more power to keep the jitter low & the sound under more stringent control?

I am always setting the lock range tighter, don't think it affects the battery.

no no this person doesn't understand that balanced mode outputs more power.

That is my point is balanced mode working with None OEM music application?

Yeah why wouldn't it? the question the community generally has is whether or not the dual DAC's are functioning. Balanced output would be AMP-side, and there's only one amplifier so balanced should work with everything.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong though

I think youre correct. I would have to believe that the way this was implemented regardless of third party apps that the dual amp and dual dac would work in balanced mode for sure. As for SE i would not think this is the case.

Hello everybody !
I've been following this thread since few weeks , and i finally bought a DP-X1A , in part thanks of your reviews here .
I had a Plenue D paired with Bang & Olufsen H3 , and bought the Meze 99 classics.

What an amazing headphone !

i went to a specialist to try it before any purchase cause i found the review strange on the fact the Meze could be so good for that price ... and in fact he is really that good , at least to me .
I tried few headphones like H&O H7, H8 , Pryma Sonus Faber ... but for me the Meze is better -  the Pryma was a huge deception .

During the visit , since i knew i was about buying the DP--X1A , i tried the famous Sennheiser IE800 , really confortable , but the price is way too high for the rendering , imo . i didn't find that much better than my H3 ( please don't stone me ).

So here 2 questions :

1 _   I will want some new IEM soon , balanced cable , to totally enjoy the Dp-X1A . i post the question , even if there is a lot of post about IEM here , cause i mainly listen Hip-Hop , and i know the Hi Res world is more about Rock , Electro and Classic . So for me it's about Nas, 2pac , MOP , AOTP , Snowgoons , Murs , 9th Wonder  and a lot of rap with great instrumentals from DJ Premier and co. .... but i might sometimes enjoy a Dire straits , Clapton or Grower Washington song. Which IEM should i consider ?  I've read some nice reviews for the JHaudio Rosie , Westone W60, Nu Force Hem6 , Campfire Lyra and Andromeda & Shure SE846 . What do you think ? which one should i choose ? and maybe you have some others possibilities for me ?

2 _ Will it be worthy to buy a balanced cable for the Meze ? Will it works well ? and if the answer is yes , which cable should i consider ?

Thank you for your thoughts and experience !

Try the audio technica ath-e40. I think it is a good match to dpx1 (even its price is low).

There are 2 amplifiers:

Dual DACs and AMPs for Stunning Control & Power

The DP-X1 has two amps and two digital/analog convertors which allow for extreme power and signal control. The double ESS Sabre ES9018K2M DACs and double ESS Sabre 9601K amps make balanced output possible via 2.5 mm output. The DP-X1 is the only player with such an advanced configuration, and the result is unprecedented power and control.

You're right my bad, doesn't change the fact that the audio is more than likely being output through both amps due to the volume levels being pretty consistent across apps.

Would you happen to know why ?

honestly, you would probably be better off finding a good audio article explaining the differences. I'm only aware of the increased voltage it provides, and that it helps with long cords, I'm a newbie!

Volume level on 2.5 balanced output is twice the volume on 3.5 single ended.

Have you tried the 2.5mm output balanced mode with music application other than the Onkyo one and if yes did you get the same result?

Just tried Poweramp, full version. with "direct volume control" Poweramp it too loud for me on volume setting of  "4", for both single and balanced, Looks like poweramp has very little success fine-graining volume control on DP-X
