Can I get instructions in English anywhere for the DP-X1A?  I know there is an English quick-start guide, but that is all I'm aware of.  Will I have to wait for worldwide release of the DP-X1A to get full instructions in English?

Since the new DP-X1A is very similar to the original DP-X1, you can probably get nearly all the info you need from the Manual on the Onkyo USA Portable Audio Downloads page ( http://www.onkyousa.com/Downloads/manuals.php ).

David: you are very helpful!  I am very interested in this DAP, but I am concerned that, because I have to buy it from Japan, I might not be able to buy from an authorized seller.  I am thinking I would need to ship the unit back to Japan if it has any defects.  I will try to determine if I can get to an authorized seller on the Amazon Japan site, at least, if I'm willing to take my chances on getting a unit that has to be returned.

I wonder if Onkyo is planning a more extensive release of this model to the USA?

Thanks for your help!  This player looks like a great value!

You're Welcome!

Just noticed that the price for the DP-X1A on Amazon (US) is about the same ($606) as I paid a few months ago for the original DP-X1(B).

On the Amazon page ( https://www.amazon.com/ONKYO-Hi-Res-Digital-Player-DP-X1A/dp/B01M0XN4KI ), the seller is listed as Premium-Japan, and there's also a link to the Multi-language Quick Start Guide - http://www.jp.onkyo.com/support/manual/manualpdf/DP-X1A_QSG.pdf

I'm sure the prices will drop as stock becomes more widely available in the U.S. and other countries (after the initial "introductory" price bump).  For all I know, the Japanese import stores on Amazon might take the opportunity to undercut domestic debut prices (If I remember correctly, they did that for the DP-X1 as well).  This is definitely one of my top two choices for my next DAP.
Cheers!

That is encouraging to know, thanks!

I did see the offerings from Premium-Japan on the Amazon USA site - and I sent them an email asking if they could offer some help with an exchange if that becomes necessary due to a defect. I think I'll have to wait for the DP-X1A to become available from an authorized US vendor, unfortunately.

New DP-X1 owner here. Having fun listening to this device which is replacing heavy block of separates that I've been carrying for several years. I've actually been using the Onkyo app for most of that time to stream DSD to my AlgoRythmn Solo DAC and Duet amp, which works very well except for the limited storage on my iPod and the difficulty transferring files via iTunes. I even figured out how to reverse tether my DP-X1 to my Mac at work to stream Tidal over our internal network.

My only frustration is with DSD. One of the reasons I bought the DP-X1 is that was advertised to support almost all file formats including DSD x 4, MQA, and DXD. However, when I play a DSD file, it gets converted to PCM. In scouring this forum, it seems there is a limitation with Android. I was wondering if there is any update from Onkyo on a fix for this? I know I can stream to an outboard DAC but the reason I bought a DAP was to eliminate the hassle of having to carry, charge, and maintain two devices. I have a Mojo that I can clearly do that with but would prefer it to be native out of the DAP. I have quite a few DSD albums, so this is a big issue for me. Is there any hope on the horizon from Onkyo?

Chord is coming out with a little add-on that will store and play music from SD cards, so if that happens, maybe I won't need the Onkyo any more.
