Ok. It doesn't show up on mine too. I just thought something is wrong with my cable. Thank you!

It's completely normal, since 3.5mm 4 pole TSSR plug has the extra mic pole outside of L/R/GND for the circuit to detect connection and this is implemented in the OS for audio routing (from speaker to headphone) in the phone, but this doesn't apply to balance connection where all 4 poles are used for audio.

Thanks! Learned something new again!

EDIT: for those using an Oppo PM-3 with the X1, what's your optimum settings?

This is my One week report about the Onkyo DP-X1.

I spent several hours reading about DAP's before I decided to buy the Onkyo DP-x1 about one week ago.

So far, this is my review about this gadget:

Pros:

Great sound.  I am not an expert about audio but I love the way it sounds.

I love the fact that it has WI-FI and Bluetooth connectivity.

It is great to have the 400 G of extra storage space by allowing you to place two Micro SDXC cards.

CONS:

Horrible battery life.  They advertise the unit will last 16 hours of audio but my unit only gives me 4 hours when I disconnect the WI-FI and the Bluetooth.  With the WI-FI or Bluetooth on it gives me less than 3 hours on a full charge.

Terrible WI-Fi Connectivity.  The Wi_Fi connection drops very often and when it is connected, it is terribly slow.  Downloading an app can take up to 20 minutes sometimes.  I had to cancel all notifications on all the apps in order to get better connectivity.

Extrenely poor user interface,  It is very user unfriendly.  Building a playlist is very difficult.  You can not transfer your ITunes music library with all your playlists.  Can Onkyo hire some smart software people to develop a program that will make it possible to connect your DP-X1 to your PC and copy your ITunes library exactly the way you have it?   How difficult can that be?

Finally, really poor customer service.  I bough my unit from Moon Audio in the USA.  I called Onkyo USA to ask help about the poor WI-FI connectivity and this is what happened.  The first time I called, the Onkyo rep didn't even know the DP-X1 existed.  He asked me about three times what the model was and what kind of equipment it was. He tried to help me by telling me to reset my modem and router.  When that did not work, he said he will report the problem to his boss and somebody from Onkyo will call me within a couple of hours.  I waited 24 hours and nobody called.  When I called again the following day, somebody else answered.  Again, this Onkyo rep knew nothing about the DP-X1.  He was looking on line with me on the phone to see what it was.  He put me on hold and then he hung up the phone on me.  I had to call back. Another Onkyo rep answered.  Once again, he never heard about the DP-X1.  I had to tell him what it was.  He went to his computer to see if he was able to find more information about the unit and more info about my problem.  He could not find anything, so he told me to call Moon Audio who sold it to me and ask them what to do.  Three reps at Onkyo and none of them were familiar with the DP-X1 or even heard abut it?  What kind of customer support is that?

I called Moon Audio and the customer service person told me they could not help me.  They said they will contact Onkyo and see what they say.  So far I have been waiting for over 24 hours and nobody has contacted me either from Moon Audio or from Onkyo.  My impression so far,  the DP-X1 is a good idea and concept from Onkyo but first they need to perfect the device and then do some good training to their employees so at least they know what the customers are talking about when they call for help about the DP-X1.  I wish I had bought the A & K 320 unit instead.  Very disappointed with the DP-X1.  I will not recommend it to anybody.

I think you are being a little hasty. It does sound like there are other possible explanations for at least some of your issues. The battery life thing is so different from almost everybody else that I have to wonder what else is going on. How much does the AK 320 cost? I'm not sure they are completely comparable. We may not like it, but you pay quite a bit of money for the excellent AK GUI and software. We buy less expensive DAPs knowing there are going to be some compromises. Have you been able to determine that nothing else could explain your WiFi issues? Do you live in a house with several cells and other devices on the 2.4Ghz band? If so, switch the DP-X1 to the 5Ghz band and see if that helps.

I have tried everything you can think of to try to solve the wi-fi problem with no results.  I did connect it to 2.4 GHZ and to 5.2 GHZ, with the same results.  The only way to improve it was by disabling the "notifications" from all the per-installed apps.  There is not explanation for the poor battery life though.  They advertise 16 hours and I get 4 hours. That is a big difference.  As I said in my review, I love the sound of the DP-X1 and if it will work the way it suppose to work I will be happy with it.  But there are many things that are not properly done.  The User interface is really poor.  I know the AK320 costs more but at least I will get a product that works.  I don't know about the A&K customer service but I hope they at least are familiar with the products they sell.  Not the case with my experience at Onkyo USA. This is an honest review that is all. I hope this motivates Moon Audio and Onkyo USA to do a better job with customer support in the future.

I get 14-16 hours on mine in airplane mode using Tidal offline most of the time. I also don't really have issues with WIFI but all I use it for is downloading more music. As for UI I think it's just fine it's a DAP not a phone.

Nothing wrong with stating your opinion of course, but may I ask did you contact anybody at Onkyo directly or simply leave it in the hands of some help desk staff? The parent company that owns ONKYO is Gibson Innovations, I would write them and see if you can't get better responsiveness before giving up. I know it shouldn't happen, but sadly many people who are in customer service probably shouldn't be. If you did indeed receive such treatment you should alert management and help the company get some better training for those staff and make them all accountable. That is how I would approach the problem. The DP-X1 works quite well, you are having some problems, go read in the X7 thread if you want to hear about problems. The AK 320 isn't more expensive, it is significantly more expensive and that does matter, quite a bit. It is like somebody buying an entry level Kia and not finding it good enough and comparing it to the most expensive Lexus made, sure they are both vehicles, but I think any reasonable person will know there are differences that money pays for.

Try a factory data reset.

mmm.....3 to 4 hours is definitely not normal. What are your settings? Also, try draining the battery to zero and then recharge to 100% before using again. I have no wifi issues (2.4 Ghz). No battery issue (more than 4 hours on wifi). U.I. is not as good as AK players and it took me a day or two to figure things out. Onkyo should have recessed the 3 buttons (pause/play, forward, previous track) as it felt sharp to the touch. I do appreciate the fast processor.  Everything just flies.....

does anyone have the issue of the player using the stock app "skiping" every once and a while? maybe once every ten songs or so when playing a song it will randomly make a "skip" sound like the needle jumping off a record for. 5 secs or something.

Android is a big system. Dpx1 sound can be tuned by many many ways. So it takes some times to learn.

I encountered before. But recently haven't encountered. I think re-start the app can help.

The notification function of every app installed will wake the wifi to check every xx minutes. So going into Applications -> individual app , then turn notification off is suggested for the first step on battery saving.
