Can anybody, owning a DP-X1 from the second, jack-fixed batch, please post the first couple of figures of their serial- or batch-numbers ? Ideally, I'd like to verify that the one I'm about to buy tomorrow has similar/identical code before I pull the trigger.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Today is an exceptional day! We finally have the Onkyo DP-X1 in stock and it really is an awesome piece of kit.

Are your units from old batch or the new batch ?(which Onkyo have apparently fixed the loose headphone jack problem)

Hi!  I have been looking on Head-Fi since 2008 and now have just created an account so please be kind.  I am looking into buying a DP-X1 sometime in the fall or winter.  Does the DP-X1 work with M3U8 playlists?  Do I have to use the X Dap software to load music on to my micro sd cards if they are in the player?  I downloaded it to try it and I hated it so bad I immediately uninstalled it off of my computer.  Does the DP-X1 show proper tags in ApeV2 (ID3V1, ID3V2, ApeV2).  I have a pair of Shure SE846 rated at 9 ohms.  I downloaded the DP-X1 Manual and it says it is only rated for 16-300 ohms output.  They claim putting headphones on it that it isn't rated for could damage my headphones.  Is this true?  Would this DAP be better for me than the Calyx M sound wise?  I only have a Fiio X5 Gen 1 right now and am looking at upgrading.  Due to the problems with the Questyle QP1R I have dropped it from list of potential DAPs.  Would the DP-X1 sound good with an Audeze EL-8 Closed?  I am looking into purchasing them as my next headphone.  Sorry if I used an incorrect term as I do not really understand much of the computer lingo for the most part. Thanks in advance.

I can answer some of your questions:

1) M3U playlists - yes those work as long as you have the file path configured correctly. However, I would recommend that you make a copy of the M3U playlists in the native playlist feature of the Onkyo player because M3U files load very slowly when you power up.
2) Loading files - no, you only need Android Transfer (free utility for Mac OS) or File Browser in Windows.
3) Tags - I haven't had issues, but I use just basic tags. Onkyo player is very limited in sorting/browsing by tags so don't expect all the hard work you put into robust tagging to do anything.
4) SE846 - you don't need to worry about damaging the amp or phones. How it sounds is another matter and subjective. Impedance mismatch just affects the sound. Balanced out may be better with the SE846.

Many people are upgraded from Fiio X5 Gen 1/2  to dp-x1.  Balanced SE846 works well on dp-x1 as reported from users.  I have tried the Audeze EL-8 closed with my dp-x1 on SE, volume at 130/160, it works good.

excuse but the Shure SE846 has the balanced cable?

No, it does not.  You need to purchase one separately.

I have tried the SE846 with original cable on SE. It sounded ok, but may not match to the performance of other IEM at the same price level.
