ONKYO DP-X1 | Dual Sabre Dacs | Balanced | Sabre BTL Amp | MQA | DSD 256 | Android 5 |

Mine 2015 version, but I got new cable with better fit.
Anyway, strange that in ACG mode so significant drop down in sound volume.

Well I'm not surprised by the volume reduction of balanced ACG mode, as only one of the two amps is used for L & R, whilst the other amp is used for ground only. The DAC's are for each channel as usual balanced.
It's an odd, but definitely sonically superior, balanced topology over BTL, to me anyway.

Regarding the 2015 and 2016 Audeze EL-8, I refer you to this topic.
If you wanted to, contact Audeze and what the fee is for an upgrade.
It's been almost universally accepted that the changes are positive. I would go so far as saying the new 2016 EL-8 are new headphones sonically.
(I've owned both 2015 EL-8 CB, which was replaced by Audeze to EL-8 Ti. The Titanium version is exactly the same as 2016 EL-8 CB).

Thank you, TheOneInYellow,

250USD plus sending/returning costs from/to Lithunia..... I skip, taking into account that they not improve high frequencies, only lows and mids. Usualy I play with EQ, so I can can stand with what i have :) Anyway, big thanks for advice!

That's ok Matrix Petka, glad I could help.

Personally, the planar sound of my old 2015 EL-8 CB was great, but the honky tone (rough mids, slightly monotone bass, and grating treble) made it difficult for me to enjoy them much at all.

When the left driver of that pair failed, Audeze Customer Services and I worked together. I then realised about the new series, and with Audeze, they allowed me to upgrade to the Titanium with the new re-voiced drivers!

Although I'm not 100% sure if the treble was changed, because the mids and bass was massively improved (buttery smooth mids, powerfully textured thwacking bass that's not bloated), the entire frequency range sounded organic.
So, by extension of fixing sonic flaws from the older model by creating re-voiced planar drivers, the overall presentation changed.

If, if you ever get a chance, demo the 2016 version against your own.

Otherwise, enjoy a still respectable planar headphone.

I'm waiting on a special balanced cable that Peter from Double Helix Cables has made for me, the Molecule Elite 22 OCC Silver Litz 4-Wire for EL-8 series. It is an alternative flagship (one of three DHC makes); a more flexible variant of his TOTL Complement4 cable but more compact and flexible.

This new cable will replace my current DHC Molecule Elite Fusion 4-Wire balanced cable, and is part of a project I'm creating with DHC, the other two pieces being an Elite 22 Silver interconnect and Cavalli Audio Carbon amp, with my Onkyo DP-X1 being the frontend.

When i read you talking about yourself as

'a wierdo who would love to have a DAP with a DOOR on the back that lets him put his own mSata drive in. (My complete PCM lossless 2-channel library is >700GB, so a DAP with a 1TB mSata drive would be, well, awesome)'

i had just strapped my new very small and lightweighted Samsung T3 to the back of my Dignis covered DP-X1.
I didn't try out every aspect at that time, but i know more now than i did then!
Now i have a very handsome portable DAP with 2 x 200GB SD cards and 2TB SSD! I found a simple way to strap them together without anything blocking the screen, damaging the cover or falling apart.
Yes, your not the only one that wants to carry around his complete HR collection...
OK, so the 2tb T3 is not a cheap solution, but i'm an early adapter, so i expect these to be lower priced in the near future. For now i have almost 18000 songs and the Onkyo and Pioneer Music apps are handling them fine, when all syncing is done. This syncing is getting the SSD rather hot, but once it's done its getting normal again. This way i don't have to use third party player apps, so no SQ problems to worry about.
Of course it's draining the battery, but i can play for 4 hours on a full battery and i can carry a small powerbank when i'm out for a weekend. And when i disconnect the SSD i have the two SSD cards to enjoy listening for the usual operation time. Just have to divide my music in a smart way between the 4 sources.
Lists are superfast. I'm enjoying all my favorite headphones in balanced connection: Custom JH Angies, Oppo PM-3, Sennheiser HD800 and Hifiman HE-1000.
And from now on: everywhere...

Wow! It looks that your cables are singing like angels even without connection to any source :) Wondering if somebody is making such great cables here in Europe?

I have ordered mine (except the Angies cable) at Surf Cables. I live in the Netherlands. Prices are very reasonable in my opinion, included the shipping costs.
Cables are varying between 115 and 140 $, shipping 18 $.
I have the Oppo version for three weeks now and ordered the HD800 and HE-1000 versions today.
