I am also in the UK and am patiently awaiting UK release but am not hopeful of this happening in the short term. (Avanced mp3 players tell me they will not be stocking it).
I know this is an awkward question but import duty etc with pricejapan?

I paid $760 (£528 converted today might have been less at the time) which included the leather case and shipping from Japan.
 
British customs
VAT £16.82
Parcel Force handling fees £13.50

Total £30.32 No import or Excise Duty (this time!)

You could be lucky and get yours delivered without having to pay the V** man a penny

How does the DP-X1 compare to the DPX-100R? I've only heard the Pioneer offering and was really impressed by it.

Same thing, except DP-X1 is a dual DAC with balanced output.

IMO it makes a huge difference. Wider soundstage and appears to have more depth and body to the sound.
Only comes into play when used in Balanced/AGC mode

I would only really use it for headphones, but will try to get my hands on the Onkyo before deciding which to go for.
