Welcome @signoftimes

You will need a cable that ends in 2.5mm (TRRS, which is the most common balanced connector these days). I use balanced Effect Audio cables and they sound great. Your single-ended cable should be good with that cable / IEM combo, but you will enjoy the balanced a bit more, so it's worth the upgrade.

Will be interested to hear how those IEMs sound with the Onkyo.

@fidelitycastro

I am still quite in this area and I am also using the Sony NW-ZX2 DAP with the same IEM and cable. I'll try to describe to the best I can as I am by no means an audiophile.

In comparison, the Sony ZX2 sounds warmer and richer. I'm not sure if I call that more neutral too.

The DP-X1 has a lot of clean highs and feels very bright, a little digital sounding to me.

Having said that, I think both are very good players.

The reason I bought the DP-X1 is that it is a lot cheaper in Japan and it can scale to 432GB of storage.

I like the controls of ZX2 more because they are less intrusive. While the volume knob of the DP-X1 is great, it is a little easy to turn whenever I place it into my pants'/jeans' pocket

As well, try backing one notch toward the normal position and see if the problem reoccurs. This will give you an idea of what range you have. As well, have you tested to see if the problem occurs with other headphones/IEMs?

Yes,I tried playing with the lock range adjust. The distortion starts from normal, all the way to narrow. Weird thing is the distortion didn't happen immediately after adjusting the lock range setting but distortion starts after 15 mins of constantly playing with other tracks and files. I have not tried other iems/headphones yet. I will try that after I return home from japan. :)

Which Effect Audio cable do you use? How do you know which type to buy, copper, silver, pure copper, silver + copper, etc?

Go to setting, sound, and tick the volume disabled when screen is off option. Your volume knob can turn, but your volume won't go up, unless you turn the screen on

Here I am thinking what is wrong with my IE800 after being balanced. I tried that setting and wow, what kind of magic is this?

Wow, I thought I knew this DAP but these settings (ACG, sharp filter and second from narrowest lock range) lifted a veil revealing new levels of detail.  Very impressive.

For reference this is with Shure SE846 white filters and a Linum balanced cable.  I'm eagerly awaiting trying these settings with a KSE1500 currently in for repairs.

So now more people confirmed that those filters and lock range setting affects the sound. Finally, I don't hear ghost noises or white noises lol.....thank you for confirmations. Now I have more confidence in my hear ability :). Ofcourse, it is more noticable by ACG, even BTL or Balanced will not be as noticables. I told myself that Active Acontrolled Grounds have better sound quality than just Balanced alone. Then I looked into Onkyo website and Onkyo only said that Balanced gives more power, it also give more finesse and details, but ACG gives it even more so.

I wished that Onkyo used many film coated capacitors for better inner fidelity and micro energy variations, it would then beat so many high-end DAP....but these guys are expensive....though, one can still wish. May be DP-X1 Pro ? Soon ?

@Whitigir hopefully they'll come out with DP-X2 while lowering the price of DP-X1, or else, they'll turn into another A&K.

Have an issue with directing Tidal to store my music offline on the SD card rather than the internal storage. I have set it to use the SD in Tidal settings and indeed when I check the capacity in Tidal/download settings, it is reducing as I download, but when I look in the main settings menu, it shows it is still storing it on the internal storage. I have tried erasing the SD and re mounting it as well as reinstalling Tidal. All to no avail. Any thoughts? Cheers guys.

I just registered for Tidal today.  Surprise to find it has huge database of my favour singer Teresa Teng.

Is there anyway to move the offline album to SD card in Tidal?

What does it show under "Settings / OFFLINE / Download Destination"?

This should show the storage capacity available immediately after the download location.

No, it does not.  Will try a 64GB card in slot 1 and see.

I tried once with a 64GB card and was told the storage wasn't enough. Now I had two 64 cards and one was full, so I assume it may mean it defaults to SD slot 1. Try changing the location of the card or cards and see. I haven't bothered yet as I have very little off-line content so I didn't care.
