I'll add my voice to the call for an updated firmware too. And get those m4a tags fixed
All the new machines are getting all the love right now. Guess we'll just have to stand by, and wait our turn
Tried the native playlist building, didn't like it one bit. Seemed to me that none of the playlist can be edited or renamed after the fact.
I just went back to using an external program to do the playlists.
Any fix for "Update file not found"? I have tried multiple cards, brands and sizes, all formatted with the X3 (FAT32), but I always get the message "Update file not found". The firmware file (x3.fw ) is definitely on the card. Why is the X3 unable to find the file? Below are the instructions that I am following...
Abridged instructions for upgrading the X3's firmware
1. Extract and copy x3.fw to the root directory of an mSD card on the X3 formatted in FAT32.*
2. Power off the X3 and make sure that the X3 is adequately charged before attempting to update.
3. Hold the menu / back button (upper left) while pressing the power button (lower right) to begin the update process.
4. After the update is complete, you will be prompted again for your preferred interface language on first startup. Afterwards it is recommended to update the media library again (if you browse by category)
*To obtain a card formatted in FAT32 (if the card is not already in FAT32 format) simply format the card within the X3 itself. Go to settings (cog symbol)->format, select the slot in which the card to be formatted resides, press OK to format the card.
WARNING: all data would be deleted so please back up your files to your computer first if card formatting is required.

Tis a long shot but...
1.did you place the x3.fw file in the root directory of the micro SD card (meaning directly within the SD card drive, not inside any directory, really) or...
2. did you put it in a directory called "root"?
It's supposed to mean the (1)...
I tried asking this in the official X3 thread but didn't get any replies.
I have just recently created my first playlist. I am quite picky about what order I have my tracks in. What I have done it pick my favourite tracks from one artist and added them 1 by 1 in album order. Started with the oldest album and the first track I really liked and ended with the last tracked I liked from the most recent album.
One thing I can't work out how to do is add a track to the middle of the playlist. It seems that if I add to the existing playlist, it always adds it right at the bottom. What I end up having to do is delete all the tracks below where I want it and then add them all back again 1 by 1. I like the fact you can create a playlist but it doesn't seem very simple. Maybe I am just too fussy!
Also, how can you name the playlist? It is called "Playlist1". I tried renaming it when connecting the X3 to my PC but it then couldn't see it. Does this mean that every playlist I create will be called Playlist1, Playlist2 and so on?
Does anyone else know anything about this?

It's in the root directory, not a folder named root.

Since you're a new member here, it does seem worth repeating: are you using an X3 1st gen (black player with buttons only) or X3 2nd gen (metallic color player with a wheel you can turn around a central button)?

2nd gen... I should have mentioned that.
