Oh NO!
(pretty cool rhyming...I just cut n' pasted, Stones Sympathy For The Devil).

That's probably the best summary of the HE1000 I've read yet, well put.
What defines speed for bass? I'm hearing the HE1000 to sound pretty slow in the bass/lower-midrange next to the SR-207. Bass/lower-midrange notes seem to linger on more than the SR-207 and it sounds slow to me, having a more blurred sound. Objectively, a waterfall plot would be able to show driver decay over tested frequencies, but no one here has done that yet.
Waterfall measurements for the SR-207 have been done on the other hand, and the bass decay is pretty superb, as is the rest of the frequency spectrum.
Likewise for the AKG K701. Although the bass itself isn't nearly as extended as either headphone, I hear the bass notes keeping up with the music pretty well and they never seem to get blurred as I hear with the HE1000.
Are you using your O2 setup for them?
I have the SR-009s, SR-007s and HD800s here and the HE1000's bass is right up there in terms of speed!
I had the chance to hear the SR-009 on the Blue Hawaii. Compared to the HE1000, the 009 sounded about as fast overall, so I hear* you on that point.
*pun intended : D
However, I actually hear the SR-207 to be faster than the 009, and thus HE1000. Peter at HeadAmp actually liked my SR-207 + EP-507 pads more than the 007 MK I, both on the Blue Hawaii, and agreed that it has more bass than either the 007 or 009.
Interesting things to hear nonetheless. That's the first time I've seen, let alone hear, the Blue Hawaii in person, both with the entry-level and highest-end STAX headphones.
Any comparaison against the DrSPEAKER ETHER and the Kennerton ODIN ? The last entrance in the TOL planar headphones.
That forum is run by an audio dealer to generate hype for products he sells. I wouldn't really take much seriously there TBH.

Whee, 29.5 minute long HE1000 review video is recorded. I missed 4 phone calls to make it happen (yes you can hear it ring in the video too). XD

HCFR is one of the biggest Hifi + HC forum in France. very rich with a lot of interesting people in man subjects. The headphone section is only a very small part of the website
