Doc, you are making this decision much easier. One last question, is the sound stage good on the 650? 

It is the best part

Edit: Actually it is the overall sound that is the "best part" but yes they have a magnificent sense of space and instrument placement due to the open back design.

I would have thought there were a lot of places where you can try out gear in NYC (i don't know how long it takes for you to get there)
maybe ask around on here and go out on a day you aren't busy.

i like my LD Mkiv. It's said that th cheaper mkiii drives hd6x0 well as well. Maybe someone will be bound to mention the 02, and Matrix M-stage

How much are you willing to spend?

I do not have a DAC, nor do I truly know what that is. My budget is under $200 ideally, really depends on value.

Digital to analog converter. I don't know which is your best choice at that price though.

You better off with DAC/amp combo, perhaps Fiio E10/E17 will be a good choice

If i go with a tube amp, would I need a DAC as well or are there combos out there?

for $200 just get schiits new combo. makes the most sense as they are actually pretty powerful
