Noble Audio - Introducing KATANA

Sep 12, 2016 at 7:12 AM Post #226 of 328
As a reader, looking at the graph area, specifically from the Audio Quality I want to have a quick overview if there's anything sub-optimal about that product in that area, something that would stand out while using it. The only negative mentioned is dynamics, as compared to the dynamic driver technology vs BA technology in general. Sorry if I'm making no sense. Leaving it here.

No worries and I'm Glad you clarified. Which is why I felt it best if I could try to explain to You some of the constraints I face when reviewing a product, and hopefully it helps you in how you assess a product based on reviews in future! :)

Anyone using Katana with an LPG?   Any issues?

How long is the stock cable on Katana?

Folks, feel free to correct me, but i think it is around 43 to 46 inches (if the tiles in my hotel are standard 12 inches) We did have about 10 - 12 units of cable made that are about 12 inches longer than the standard cable. (for customers in the 7 ft tall area)

If you need a longer cable, contact Brannan asap, as there are not many left, if any at all.

Both are amp/source dependent. Out of the Mojo, my Katana is dark, out of the CDM, it's slightly warm, out of the iPhone 6 it's dead neutral, out of the AK100ii, it's a face-tweeter. Altogether, my Katanas sound best with the CDM and worst out of the AK100ii. Each amp/dac has a similar effect on my K10s but, ironically, because of their inherently warmer nature, I like them best out of the AK100ii, which give them an effortlessly natural airiness that no head-or-earphone I have ever heard, not even the SR009 or Katana, has matched.

I, for one, love to see Katana in the same bracket as SR-009. Me, both my amp and DAC have tubes, so warm or bassy headphone is not what I'm going for. My setup actually makes HD600 being somewhat too warm and too bassy for me.

That is so untrue! Yes, the K10U is very similar to LCD-X, but the Katana is nothing like HD800 or Stax, quite the opposite in fact because HD800 and Stax don't have bass and the Katana has too much in my opinion. Compare to the K10U, the Katana is much louder because of lower impedance probably; an A to B comparison makes it very easy to favor the latter, as the sound is a little warmer and richer with more punchy bass, but for those who want a reference sounding signature, K10U is still it. My 2 cents.

Based on my exposure to these things up to this point K10 for me I can forget about Katana. Thanks!

IMHO the Katana is tuned way more towards reference style than the K10 (relatively speaking),but yes Katana is by all means not neutral like ER4 at all. Bass is lifted for sure but nowhere near as much as the K10U
