[NEWS / DISCUSSION / IMPRESSION] Phonak Audéo PFE232
Dec 8, 2011 at 5:02 PM Post #316 of 1,082
Funnily, that's rather hard to say for me... going by memory, maybe the EX1000 are somewhere in the same quality/quantity league. Or maybe W4/UERM, if you add a few dB, or SM3, if you remove a few dB (and add some clarity in the midbass).

The thing is, the 232 go amazingly deep (just like the 112) without any roll-off, so they don't break a sweat with 20Hz basses at all - those frequencies are clearly audible, whereas many bass heavier phones might struggle down there.

Sounds like my kind of IEM.

Judging by your signature, they might not be the right phones for you... they have a decent full-bodied sound character (especially compared to the PFE 112), but they are not bass heavy to speak of.

Besides Chinese opera, trance might be the only music genre I don't listen to... so I dunno. I do like them however with the electronic stuff I listen to (Alva Noto, Pan Sonic, etc) - with a little help from the ZO, that is.

Thanks dfkt!

Haha, I'll have something up by tomorrow. I'd do it today but I have a long drive going home from uni for the holidays today. All I can say from a quick 10-minute listen is that they're definitely the best iems I've ever heard. There's just so much more texture and separation compared to everything else I've heard before that I felt like I relived my first audiophile moment, going from stock earbuds to the panasonic hje900's.

To me, a benefit of buying generic vs custom IEMs is the ability to resell.  One never quite knows what one is buying.

Now, I'm not much of a seller/trader, but if it doesn't appeal to me, I can always post an advert.....

These are so not worth 500 dollars, Maybe 250.. Max.. Phonak was famous because of there lower priced items which had there flagship at 200 dollars.. I bought them for 500 dollars tried them and they are not worth 500 dollars at all.. Maybe 250.. I feel that Phonak just wanted to tap into the market since everyone is having a flagship for 500 dollars... I would say its better to get the pfe 112 which sound amazing already and priced decently and you get what you pay for.. I am going to return these after using them for almost 20 days.

Were it not for the PFE 112, I may have considered these. But I'm not the least bit inclined to purchased them, unless there is a considerable price drop, as was the case with the EX1000.

I'll be real interested in you take vs GR10 as I'm also a big fan of Phonak. Are those Grados run in yet.

This doesnt seem significantly better than the 112,when you compare the price involved, they are indeed "Better" but not to say better for 500 dollars, for less than 200 dollars We get the 112, which you could buy for about 150 dollars. Those are just amazing, I agree the 232 are upgraded but I swear you wouldnt feel a drastic improvement in quality eventhrough there is. Just stick with the 112.
