I know that one of the biggest complaints that I have heard from people about the E7/E9 combo was then when the E7 was used as a DAC for the E9 the bass boast function would not work.  I know what the answer likely is but any chance that the E7's bass boast function would be active when used with the L7?

L7 will give a line level signal without going through the amp portion of E7 and the bass boost is part of the amp, so the answer is no, you can't use the BB feature with L7.

I have both the E7 and the E9, can someone please explain to me what this thing is for? It seems to have the 3,5mm jack, a mini-usb and the FiiO connector or whatever it's called, all of which the E7 already has. Could this thing somehow be used to combine the E7 with my Cowon X7 (the same way I can combine it with my iPod, by using the small LOD cable)?

This LOD is for E7. It will bypass the built-in amp in E7 so you can link the E7 with any other better amps, so that you are not limited just to E9.
 
It also works with FiiO's DAP X3.

Is this unreasonable? I'd love that... it would make using this as a dedicated DAC into a home theater receiver really easy.

Does it lock onto the line out on E7? So if something accidentally tugged onto the cable, will that cause the L7 to be pulled out?

The retail price will be about 6- 8 USD depend on different region! the ETA still is March. but maybe it will arrive our sales agent in April because it take time to process the PO and on the road.
