New WESTONE W-SERIES

Weird, the W30 has always struck me as better than the W40 in the bass department...Oh well I guess Westone know what they're doing.

I guess that's why they decided to put it into a separate B-series? W50 was always bass heavy, sounding nearly like W60 except for a noticeable boost around 60Hz. Now, they are both going to be separated as the basshead IEMs :D

Found a very good sinegry yesterday between the Lg G7 phone (sabre DAC) and W40.
Any idea if the new version on the W40 is different from the previous generation SQ / tuning wise? Thanks

It is different. I'm wrapping up a few other things, and starting next week working only on W-series v2 review, to summarize everything. Listening from LPGT with W40 vs W40 v2 (w/new SPC cable), a noticeable change in bass impact (more impact with deeper subs extension) and lower treble is smoother and more natural (the original w40 has a little harsher peak around sibilance area).

Thank you. More bass...I would stick to the existing version in that case. The reason I could not bear the um pro 30 in a long run was the amount of mid bass, too much for me. I found the W40 more balanced in that regard.
And I need it for on-the-go purposes only since I have a perfect 6 BA IEM for a serious listening with my micro BL.

That's a thing, we hear sound a little different. I personally think W40, due to more neutral bass quantity, has upper frequencies pushing a little more forward, but for others it could sound more balanced. Neither of us is right or wrong, we have different hearing level and different ear anatomy  So, if you are happy with the current tuning of W40 and its bass quantity, there is no need for you to switch to W40 v2. I personally prefer the new v2 tuning, plus you get new metal faceplate clips, new silver plated cable, and Bluetooth cable. It really does feel like a better value upgrade considering price should be the same as original.

Looking forward to your V2 series review Alex.

Finally, metal faceplate clips!!! :D Though entry level W10 and W20 2nd gen still have plastic ones, their 2nd gen W40, W60, and W80 all have interchangeable metal faceplate clips now. And it looks like W40 and W60 use the same size j-clips as W80. It's about time  Btw, 2nd gen W40 and W60 updated tuning is quite noticeable, as well as their new stock silver-plated copper cable is pretty good. Working on 2nd gen W-series review, hope to be done in a week.

Interesting, they discontinued the W30...
Correct. It was discontinued.

However, we are launching a brand new 3 driver unit this month in the B30. This shares some characteristics with the W30 but we do utilize different drivers and have updated the crossovers so it will not sound the same.

Didn't you say the V1s would eventually get metal clips as well. Or did I misunderstand?

Original v1s are discontinued, replaced by v2. What I mentioned in W80 thread, if that's what you are referring to, 2nd gen W80 j-clips fit perfectly the original W80. So for those who already bought W80, I think it will make perfect sense to get those metal clips if/when Westone will make it available for sale. There is no other difference between 1st and 2nd gen W80. Also, the same size j-clips are used on 2nd gen W40 and W60, just with corresponding model label.

But I did hear a rumor Westone might make metal faceplate c-clips for the original W-series. So, let's keep our fingers crossed

Lots of work went into this one. My full Review/Guide of 2nd gen update of Westone W-series, including W10, W20, W40, W60, W80, and BT Cable v2 is here. I will also create a separate thread on Head-fi soon, where I will mirror this review.
