At a little over $300, it's a bargain for what you get.

so they are the same headphone with a different package and skin so to speak.

I don't have the M50 so I can't comment on the sound compared to the z1000.

I'd always heard that said about the V6 and 7506.
But it became evident to me that I liked the 7506 more, and still do.

In a similar way, perhaps the 7520 is a better can than the 1000 -
due to more precise component matching and other refinements.

see it's odd to me, the Z1000 are the "flag ship" but the 7520 are the "pro" does flag ship mean consumer? OH and I know why the pads are different, the Z1000 are leather, REAL leather or at least that's what sony would have me believe.

I like the ZX1000 a bit better.  Seems to have more punch.  Perhaps a bit more sparkle.

Thanks. Seems like the extra punch would suit my rock/pop tastes better. Then again, I was leaning towards the Z1000s to begin with since the 7520s' coiled cable seems like a hassle for portable use.

I gave it some ear time tonight against the MDR-7520 on my Apogee Duet 2.  The MDR-Z1000 seems to have a tiny bit more punch than the MDR-7520.  It's a very very small difference.

Are you happy with the Duet 2?

I love the Duet 2 so much I may get one more for road use.

Looks like the Z1000 and the 7520 are the same headphones, they list for the same price, I believe the 7520 are aimed at studio users therefore they are finished in black.

According this Japan blog, Z1000 leans toward treble and mid, Z7520 has more bass.
