The real question is, do they actually sound the same?

Also would have been nice if you could have shown exactly how the opening at the back of the cup beneath the headbands looks like (you can see it only a bit from the side at the very end of the video), it's a design feature worth pointing out/mentioned at least as it probably leads to some sound leaking (in exchange for better soundstage). At least Sony seems to have grasped the importance of letting the cups be vented, bet they'd have really poor soundstage without it due to the quite compact design.

What a nice package, but the design is not of my liking. Are you making a review with sonic impressions?

Good job.

I am breaking it in right now.  Since my MDR-7520 are a couple of months old, it wouldn't be a good comparison right now.  Stay tuned for my sound impressions in the coming weeks.

I really like this new age of rugged minimalism...

Subscribed to see if Sony can make a play for the spot as my premier closed headphone... Can we have a quick AT-m50, or *looks at your headphone list*, the K271? comparison, just bullet points, nothing fancy? Just trying to find a reference with something I recently spent time with...

The prices for these has dropped to $311.  That's a great deal for very musical headphones.

Have you started listening to them yet? I admire your patience with burn-in, I would never be able to NOT start listening to a new headphone right away. :p $311 That sounds like a really good price. Any1 seen any frequency response measurements for these yet? Would be interesting to compare with ZX700.

I gave it some ear time tonight against the MDR-7520 on my Apogee Duet 2.  The MDR-Z1000 seems to have a tiny bit more punch than the MDR-7520.  It's a very very small difference.

So basically, buy whichever's cheaper at this point? I must say, the Z1000 looks more classy than the 7520. For some reason, the all black doesn't really look too great on the video.

At a little over $300, it's a bargain for what you get.
