Has anyone had a chance to compare sp1000 to hiby R8? Just sound comparison i mean tonality, technicalities?

Everyone's ears are different but I preferred the sound from the SP1K over Chord's Hugo2 (so I sold the H2 and kept the SP1K). Never heard any of HIBY's DAPs although I've read good things about them.

Having a few Chord dacs, I can confirm the SP1000 compares quite favorably for an all in one portable solution.

I had been periodically looking at Roon's site for updated "Roon Ready" devices in my search for a portable DAP to integrate with my setup. Like others, I purchased an A&K device (SR15) with the understanding that an upcoming update would enable Roon integration (as advertised at the time I purchased both Roon and my DAP). Yesterday, I noticed A&K was on the partners list. I don't believe it was there last time I checked. That's why I posted the link an asked for an update. Dead horse or not, I am hopeful.

If you are only using it for ve8, there will not be much benefit in the add on amp. VE8 is easy to drive with sp1000 alone.

My SP1000M drives my audeze LCD XC and LCD3 beautifully single ended. It drives my LCD4 comfortably with a balanced cable. I haven't compared directly with my burson Conductor 3X ref or chord Qutest and Sparko Aries. I expect the TT gear is marginally better but the top end Astell & Kern are sensational. And you can always buy a TT amp like a soloist or sparko or DAC/Amp like a conductor later and use a A&K as a source.

One more question, can i ask for the SP1000 firmware 1.13CN if anyone still havet it? I am currently on the firmware 1.52CN and some people recommend about 1.13CN.
