New TOL A&K DAP : the AK Ultima SP1000
May 8, 2019 at 3:35 PM Post #6,166 of 9,409
That's why I stream MQA Tidal on my SP1000...dont need all that storage and Tidal sounds great. But I'm told that higher res files sound better such as DSD, etc.
I don't like the sound of dsd files, altho I never heard the hi-res ones. I find basic FLAC and hi-res FLAC sound the best. Tidal is ok, but using it on the sp1000 is a waste in my opinion.

The hi-fi version of tidal is essentially a redbook cd file and I find, in general, the MQA files sound even better. I dont buy hi res music anymore because I'm now a slave of streaming...ack...and hearing new music without 'buying them' is incredibly addictive and liberating...

Yes, I use Tidal, it is great with Roon! I don't like to stream because of the drop outs, but I have been using Tidal more and more. But my personal music collection (digital) is 20,000+ albums!

Wow the first post was edited really quickly. Call me old fashioned but I pay for my music. I like to support the musicians that I like. The only exception is when i am not able to get the album in the US mostly for orchestral video game soundtracks.

You're old fashioned.

Yes, I thought the original post was in poor taste so i edited it, sorry if it hurt your feelings.

I get the whole "support the artist" trip, but when record companies started charging 17+ dollars for garbage CD's, that I couldn't return if it turned out to be crap (which 90% of the time it is) I decided Led Zeppelin will survive without my .49 cent royalty check.

If you want to 'support' the artists, feel free to break out your checkbook and pay them directly.

Peace.

No hurt feelings here. I am currently using tidal mostly. I know that the record keep most of the money from the sales. I usually just buy cds from Amazon when they are cheap.

I agree that there is a lot of crap music being made currently. I mostly buy music that is older or is from bands that write whole albums. Most modern music is on or two singles and the rest is all filler.

Side by side with SP1000 and SP2000, I think I like the carbon back a little more.

The copper SP2000 looks weird with that color combination. I’m not a fan of that.

Is that copper with stainless steel or is the lightning just making it look like a SS back on the sp2000?

The SP2000 is the cooper version in that photo. The cooper back seems a little lighter in color on back. it could also be the light and angle causing the difference in tonality. Who knows.

Yeah I am assuming it may be a lighting thing, because it almost looks as if its copper on the corner with a stainless steel back but that doesn’t make sense.

Regarding the back panel preference, wouldn't it be irrelevant considering the leather case, unless you risk to carry it naked

Uh, huh...

Yeah, I carried my 1000M naked, because the case screws up the buttons and it got a little banged up; that blue coating comes off easily!
