New TOL A&K DAP : the AK Ultima SP1000

Seems to me that the SP2000 is indeed a big upgrade - measurements wise the 4499 is ahead of every other sigma-delta chip on earth including 9038 pro, they had to lose 1/3 of the battery life to achieve it but its amp circuit is 50% more power. Not sure what specs people think are missing - maybe Bluetooth 5.0, and everyone wants 2.5 to go in favor of the more durable 4.4.

Just saw the SP1000 AMP for the first time. It will also come with a leather case for when the SP1000 is docked.

Hey! Quit posting factual information from first-hand experience! What kind of Head-Fi-er are you anyway?! :o2smile:

Hmmm sp2000 is heavier than the 1000 and has worse battery life. Interesting.
Yes, but more memory and better DACS! Woohoo!

Looking at the specs between DACS 99 and 97, it says the 97 'output architecture' is voltage, and on the 99 current. Anyone knows what this means exactly?

I always look forward to the High End show we’re AK announces their new products. I knew it’s was time for a new Flagship product from AK this year, just based on the typical cycle. So, I was very much looking forward to this day, so are the new features on the SP2000 a compelling enough reason to go sell my SP1000 and come out of pocket for the new model? Or just buy the new amplifier and call it a day? So what’s new................

1) new AKM4499eq DAC
2) better WiFi antennas AC
3) more internal storage 512gd
4) more output power

The processor seems to be the same.
The screen seems to be the same, the interface, GUI that experience seems to be unchanged.
The esthetics are very similar, I would argue that the rear of the unit is nicer on the SP10000.

Usually I’m all over the new models and I go out of my way to go sell and save my money for the upgrade. But this year my opinion after the information of this release is a very different story. With the SP 1000 AMP giving me a choice against upgrading the player because I don’t see enough in the new mode, this is a first for me, and who knows I may upgrade but it’s not so clear this time around for me.

I think it would depend on what you get for your used SP1000. I don't know what they are going for, but if your willing to spend $800 on the new amp, if you sell your 1000 for $2,600, your there... Even if you had to toss in an additional 3 or 4 hundred, it would still be worth it. (to me).

Nah, a used SP1000 will go for around $1,900 with this update, maybe even lower. Watch and see.

The specs may be much better but I doubt the sound quality is going to be proportionately better. The SP1000 rocks, AFAIK.

So the new Amp won't be compatible with SP1000M according to the video? That's a bummer.
Well its a different size for 1, and the 1000M does not have the leads on the bottom.

So then its $800 for the upgrade. I guess it depends on how much better it sounds. The additional storage does not interest me, I find when I have vast amounts of music on my 1000M, I never listen to it. It's better to put minimal, select items on the player I know I'm interested in. I used to have complete Beethoven, complete Mozart, complete Tchaikovsky collections; I never listened to them.

That's why I stream MQA Tidal on my SP1000...dont need all that storage and Tidal sounds great. But I'm told that higher res files sound better such as DSD, etc.
