New TOL A&K DAP : the AK Ultima SP1000

Maybe someone can help me understand here. Obviously I will wait until the full announcement for confirmation but he says it’s “open apk” and that Apple isn’t android. Apple Music has an android app. Android apps are .APK files. Would this not mean that I could just install the Apple Music apk file? Or am I misunderstanding?

Edit: he just responded to me and said you download them yourself, so maybe there is hope for Apple Music.

Any info on what new firmware means for MQA on tidal app. As far as i know some mobiles with apk (LG) have tidal MQA. Is the same possible with the new firmware? (I was one of those who bought SP1000 after the (now we know) fake announcement of MQA support).

Now THAT would be a GREAT feature for the SP1000 series...MQA decoding via Tidal...wow...

Just as a follow up, check the option menu and master icon on LG V30 app version - http://hifitrends.com/2018/04/10/portable-hi-res-mqa-streaming-with-tidal-masters-on-the-lg-v30/

Since its a regular version of android tidal apk i really hope this comes to SP1000 new firmware option list. Jason any feedback possible? Thanks for you possible input in advance.
Tidal Masters uses MQA so it is only supported if device does MQA decoding. Currently we do not do MQA, so even with the native Android Tidal app, Masters will not be an option since there is no MQA decoding on the player. If/When we add MQA, the Tidal Masters option will be available.

@JasonNYC any word on as to why Apple Music isn't supported but Tidal/Spotify are? From what it seems, you just download and install the APK yourself so it should work?

Apple Music is one of the few apps that you cannot just install the APK. It requires Google Play Services and a valid Google Play Store account logged into the device to function. It regularly checks for a valid Google Play account. Since we do not have the official Google Play app store installed on our players, the Apple Music app cannot validate a Google Play account, therefore will not run.

Ah okay, thank you for the detailed explanation. Makes sense! Appreciate it, bummer for me :frowning2:
