New Sony Walkman NW-A300 Series (Android 12)

Has anyone used both the A306 and the A55?

Am considering a new DAP (DX320, NW WM1A, Hiby R6 Pro 2). In terms of quality I think the A55 sounds great but it does have some low noise, background hiss with my IEMs Fiio FH3, JD7, Dorado 2020). My Hiby R5 Gen 2 produces zero hiss.

Does the A306 produce any audible hiss?
How laggy is it to use?
It does, all Walkman do. Even the most expensive WM1ZM2 does produce background noise with sensitive IEM and i can hear it with several.

With the 5/COSMOS or the VE8 its even so strong, that the hiss is louder than the music on low volumes.

There is nothing you can do about it, sadly

I have used A306 with some sensitive IEMs from 64 Audio including Trio, Nio, 12t, and do not hear any hiss with A306. I think I am sensitive to hiss even with the low one, so please check your IEMs specs and compare them with mine to guess, but it is better to try it yourself, A306 is the cheap model so I think some Sony Centers have it for the demo.

That is a shame. Maybe all Sony DAPs have it but my Hiby has zero audible hiss.
Digital Amps are prone to this, yes. Its a blessing and a curse at the same time.

Analog Amps have, in general (there are exceptions too), way better noise floor. Not all of them, but some of them are remarkable. There are 3000mW amps with 2µV of noise floor.

That is one advantage from analog amps

No hiss to talk of, even with my sensitive SE846's with A306/307. Very minimal, maybe pre 2023 CF Andromeda will reveal some. There was a tiny bit when new but after about 40hrs it seemed to diminish to nothing for some reason with my SE846. My higher impedance Sony M9 & Fiio FD7 no hiss at all.

Thanks. Will probably just stick with my A55 as my small portable DAP. The larger more lavish DAP I get will be solely used at home, I don't use a "desktop" setup. As I want a fluid software experience without the lag that'll likely rule out the larger Sony's. Doesn't have to be high end smartphone level, just much better than my slow Hiby R5 Gen 2.
If you can't tolerate slow OS then Avoid A306. I had a R5G2 and seemed fast with its older Android OS. I think iBasso & higher end Hiby OK for Android OS experience.

i use it with walkman, pocketcasts, tidal, bandcamp, youtube, sometimes chrome. no issues at all.

i have an ibasso dx170 now that is laggy and locks up
Have you done all the disable/optimisations guide stuff? Not done that with mine, maybe I should.
