Sony came out with some new headphones and I was wondering if anybody had the opportunity to try them on.

I'm especially looking for a open can headphone. Wondering how the mdr ma300 sounds. It around my price range. If there are other open can headphones that are great that is within $100 feel free to write it down thx. Theres also a mdr ma500 but it seems to be either only for europe or not available yet.

Those MA900 are supposed to be open... doesn't really look like it though.

At $299, maybe an SA5k successor?

Or rather MDR-F1

Yes, if you look closely the MA900 is built in a very similar fashion to the MDR-F1.  The MA900 incorporates a 70mm driver though so it might be able to produce better bass.

Wonder why theres a such a huge price jump between the ma300 and ma900...... $299 way much for me :frowning2:. The only thing that I don't like about the ma series is that they all seem a bit flimsy and uncomfortable around the headband area.

And Vaughn you should be the first to buy them and make a review on them XD.

One more thing there seems to be a ma500 which isn't out yet. Through an article a read it seems like the ma500 is only coming out in Europe. suxs cuz it looks good too lol

Nah, that would go against my M.O., which is to wait until a headphone is all but forgotten and being sold for pennies on the dollar...

sometimes this takes years, but it cuts down on impulse buys for immediate gratification

. If sony can pull off the open design with strong bass and mids (i.e vocals) then this will skyrocket to the top of my "to buy" list. The other open headphones either have no bass (ad700) or no midrange (dt990). I don't like the look though. You'd think as a flagship they'd make it stand out but it looks like a generic $30 headphone. The v55's on the other hand look really nice. Are they supposed to be portable?

ZX600 pic died, click here for a new one.

By the way, V55DJ = V700DJ, or so another guy said.

im not familiar with the ma line but i cant shake the feeling that the ma900 is the reason the xb1000's were pulled, the 70mm driver sets off the most alarms in my head, but these are open so the comparison might just stop there

does anyone have any info on the freq response on the ma900?

I had the opportunity to try on the mdr v55, for about only 2 mins though :p To my ears they sounded decent...ish... they were really comfortable and are easy to fold up and take around with you. They sounded a little bloated, and the mid range slightly recessed, couldn't really make a verdict on the treble.

Then again I don't think they had any burn in at all, maybe 20 hours usage tops. And I only got to listen to them for about 2 mins so anything I said could be wrong. They are fairly well priced considering their price point (~150-180).
