New Schiit! Ragnarok and Yggdrasil

Gungnir > Ragnarok, Gain 2 for BOTH LCD-X and KEF LS50s with a JL Audio e110 pulling sub duty. Volume knob at 12:00 for the LCD-X, around 3:00 for the KEFs. Heaven. Cranked higher, and it hurts after about 5 seconds. This is really a phenomenal nearfield setup. Can't hear any sonic differences between Gain settings assuming volume is matched.

Thanks for the impressions, I should probably check out how my Ascent Sierra-2's sound on gain setting 2 instead of 3. Honestly, I can't listen to them at anything higher than 11:00 at gain 3, though gain 3 is great for drowning out the pop music from the teenage girl in the apartment above mine.

It beggers belief that Windows develop wasapi ans mmcss amd still not support usb class 2.0 standard. Sorry have to deal with tweako music server support also, though Server 2012 is pretty common choice for music server OS now. Maybe one day everything we need will just be on Linux.

I'm pretty sure it's all on Linux now.  The problem is to find all the necessary pieces -- and then there's the learning curve.

Raspberry Pi with Volumio (audio focused small distribution) just works for every device I've tried.

Good to know. Now I just need to find a way to control it with my phone and we're golden.

For installation:

Volumio works as an AirPlay audio receiver, for CD-quality streaming, if that's what you meant. Apps available to control it for most systems

Does anyone know,if there was an issue with using the USB connection at a recent meet with the Yggdrasil?

Correct me,if I'm wrong on this,or,if anyone has a link if this has actually happened?

Thanks,
Mike

Before this gets blown out of proportion with rampant speculation:

which states in relevant part:
We had some issues getting it up and running which had to do with Windows problems. Once someone (Jude, I believe) identified the issue and said to connect it to a Mac via USB, a group including blitzxgene had it singing.

Well I definitely, inadvertently, pissed off my neighbors for several hours last night. I didn't realize that my Ragnarok was set to speakers + headphones mode until about 2am.

As much as I love my Ragnarok (which is a great deal, I couldn't be happier with it sound-wise), the lack of a speaker/headphone mode indicator is a pretty tough design compromise to swallow.

Sure, it's easy enough to do a quick sound check before putting on your headphones, but I occasionally forget to do that since it's never been part of my routine before. To put the onus on the user rather than the system seems wrong.

All in all, a relatively minor gripe, but as a UX designer these things really stand out to me (and now my neighbors too).

If you'd like to donate that unit for disposal, I would be happy to, um, get rid of it for you. No charge! I'll even pay for shipping!

OK, so Mike and Jason have made their feelings re Micro$oft's pathetic support for USB DACs in Windows plain for how long, yet we still have people at a meet trying to hook Yggy up to a Windoze machine ?

No idea if any of the existing Schiit drivers even work with Yggy on Windows, but is that something you'd be willing to find out at a meet ?

Seems like one case where Mac and Linux are the safest option - Windows 8 has its moments, but this is not its finest hour.

Well that sinches it, the next home computer will be a Apple. When I get the Yggdrasil, I want no fuss hooking it up to a computer.
