long time out of production, try typing "cd3000" on ebay..you can currently find 2 sellers, but they're a far cry from the stock earpads comfort...very bulky and not soft at all.

the stock earpads are made of pleather and would flake out after a few months anyway...your best option is to make them yourself using genuine leather:  http://www.geocities.jp/myaudiolife/mdrcd3000/reconstruction1.html

...Make yourself useful and knockup a few sets of these genuine leather pads, I could do with a set myself.

How come Sony opted to use earpads that self destruct like this? If they flake after a month or so they should been aware of the problem? I have one on the way with worn stock ear pads and some new oem pads. Do the new earpads affect the sound much? Hopefully more durable?

Sony has discontinued making replacement earpads for the CD3K. The other alternatives is to search ebay for a vendor that sell non-OEM CD3K earpads or build your own. The replacement earpads from the ebay vendors aren't as soft as the originals but are a bit more durable. I don't think they should affect the overall sound of the cans.

or they wanna milk the cow on earpads ^^

but I think all pleather earpads end up like this? I was told that the T50RP's do too, and very quickly as well. Pleather is just very thin plastic glued on fabric...face oils and acid/salty sweat together will unseal it eventually.

SONY went genuine leather on the sa5k.
