New Hifiman Headphone HE-400 is out

HE400's bass is extremely tight, and its non-linear distortion is extremely low, even performing better than the HE-500 in that aspect, but I havn't heard the 2900 so I can't compare.

Its bass EQ's as well as DT990 for me, as in it doesn't turn to mess, but its bass impact isn't that much powerful either.  I don't think an EQ will ever make up for physical properties of the driver/housing.

I love the HE400's bass. I just think bass boosting should be for leaner sounding bass (like say the Pro 900, which hits hard and quick, but isn't omnipresent, like say the D7000's bass).

Thanks for that.. I've pretty much retired my FiiO stuff but it sounds amazing on my system.  Purchased the track from iTunes right after the YouTube listen.

Just to add a confession to these discussions try listening to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Gb3faOzvBk with +10 bass on and at 35-40 with +12db gain, rocks your ears off, I'm not a massive fan of dubstep but its one hell of a ride when you have a pair of HE- 400's :)

This song is mostly instrumental (like 95% with the voices being a repeating hook), so no worries for those who aren't hip hop fans (I'm not much either).

But just listen to how clean that bass sounds off the HE400. MAAAAN. Absolutely ridiculous.

I couldn't possibly love the HE400 anymore right now.

Some of these doobie brother recordings have been by far the best recordings I've heard so far on the HE-400.  Listen to the Music, Long Train Running, What a Fool Believes in to name a few.

That is hilarious, I was just listening to the very same band today on Last FM today with the HE-400s wondering if I should post about how fantastic the combo sounds. I was never a fan until experienced them with the HE-400.

Dang, all my DB recordings are old 128 rips. Not sure that I can bring myself to listen to them. Oh well, I can fire up MOG. At least it's 320.

I was a bit underwhelmed at first with the E17 yesterday since they sounded like a louder E7, but after some more listening the difference is quite apparent - bass pops out of the headphones now and I can feel it as well as hear it, also everything sounds much more expansive and imaging improved quite a bit. Gotta listen more to detect if there are any improvements in the mids or treble.

I never really got the fascination with her.  I guess she might appeal to the gaming audience.

Yeah the mainstream "video games are hip" gaming audience that tote about old Nintendo games and systems all day, those guys.

Great suggestion, even my 128 vbr's were great.

Now guys, If you can get your hands on a copy of The Postal Service's Give Up...

The bad part about this is you really do need the CD to hear the textures this album has to offer. Myspace is the best stream I've found (http://www.myspace.com/music/player?aid=11789180&ac=now), but the CD with the HE400 is just outstanding.

I've had this sitting on my HD for years. I haven't listed to it in at least 5. Just fired it up with the he400. It sounds very different and a whole lot better now!!
