New Hifiman Headphone HE-400 is out

Anyone here have the Mad Dogs and can they compare it with the HE 400. I love my HE 400 but I am looking for a closed can with good isolation. Have been suggested the Mad Dogs by many other people and was wondering if anyone can compare the sound with the HE 400, what I am most concerned about is the bass.

Hey, another from Atlanta!! Compared to the he400 the MD has exceptional isolation and bass. There are many who compare it to the lcd2. And it's actually pretty close. This is a dark hp and is not as easy to drive as the he400. The MD can not quite match the he400 on sound stage or those beautifully layers and natural mids. It's very good though and fun to listen to.

gL!! Hope that helps.

How is the Icon HDP to the HE400 ? Has anyone try it ?

I use the Icon HD with the HE400 and I like the combo.  The Icon has enough power and I think the slight brightness of the Icon is a good fit with the HE-400.  However, the Icon HD is my only amp, so I don't have anything to compare it to

I feel really stupid, but I got my Velour pads in the mail today and I for the life of me can't figure out how to get them on. I popped the old ear pads off, and now I'm in the "oh ****" mode, since I can't figure this out.

Slip the first two notches in (shouldn't be hard), then push the last two inwards. The plastic is bendable, so don't worry about temporary bending. Its a pain at first, but some brute force is necessary.

Push the last two inward until they slip under.

You probably left the retaining ring on the headphone instead of within the earpad. Each earpad should be 2 pieces together - the pad and the plastic ring with 4 tabs wedged within the pad.

Don't feel stupid. It takes practice, and even then, it can still be a pain. I dread removing them.

Hey, don't sweat it. You're about the 12th person who has had the same trouble. I think that I was the 1st or 2nd.

/Begin stupid observation/ Just got my pair today and they really are as awesome as I thought they'd be. When adjusting them though i noticed that if i pull the cups slightly off my head (think like 1/2" or less) the bass is noticeably bigger. When I let the cups go back to the normal position I can hear that quantity fade. I have the velour pads on. Am I crazy? /End stupid observation/

Yes, the HE400 is odd in that more distance from your ears increases the bass up to a certain point.
