I have to agree with Gu Sensei, on the similarity between the T1 and HE5LE at least right out of the box and both driven by the EF5.

Really!  then I may be disappointed to my coming T1.

To my ear, the sonic texture of HE5-LE is "rougher" comparing to DT880/600. The former is like the surface of pottery and the later is like china - the smoothness of the glaze is missing.

I certainly hope that T1 has better sonic texture than DT880/600.

Macedonianhero, observe this was direct from box, 0 hour brake in, and with one amp. I think both could be used with other cables and à better amp to see how they compare. I have à burnt in pair of HE5 as well and so far the HE5LE sound more like the T1 than the old HE5.

I went back and forth several times today between the T1 and the HE-5LE.  Both are excellent. I prefer the T1's overall presentation, but I do think that the HE-5LE is quite competitive - and it's much less expensive than the T1.  Both are highly transparent.  The T1 has the slightly smoother treble, and has a little more bass weight, which I find useful.  Both have nicely transparent mids, although the T1 is slightly better in that regard too, IMHO.

I would not say they sound the same, no.  But the differences are hard to describe.  The HE-5LE is a little more forward in the mids, and the T1 a little warmer.  But these are subtle shadings, not gross colorations, to be sure.

The T1 definitely has the better defined soundstage IMO, yes, if that is what you meant.

I agree with Rob.
Also, the HE-5 (LE) is a great headphone, but we are comparing dynamic and ortho. They both sound great out of the EF-5.
I also use my T-1 out of my Headroom Desktop Max and Luxman P-1. Although I'm not happy with Dr. Xin, I have a ghetto Reference, and I find T-1 sound output is quite satiating. It has power to spare.

I would be a whole lot closer if my LCD-2's were actually here

On driving these: can a Headroom Ultra Desktop Dac/Amp drives these?  They apparently put out 1/2 watt per channel; I'm new to this so I'm not certain if that's enough current for these bad boys.....
