New Hifiman HE-5LE planar magnetic headphone

The 500's perceived "naturalness" is due to their rolled off treble and slight midrange coloration; their perceived "dynamics" due to lack of coherency, compared to the 5LE and 6--IMHE.

+1000 and it's how I feel about LCD-2's

You're right, I didn't notice that. It looks like an article they wrote 2 years ago and released last month?

My guess is they just culled the summaries of each headphone from their (possibly outdated) review archives and pieced them together into this list thing.

These guys are really uninformed; HE500s have long since been marked down to $699 from $899.

I think if  you look at all their listed prices, you'll see them wrong in a lot of cases.  As low as $945 for the LCD2?  I thought they started, or were priced at $995 for the rosewood and the bamboo versions.  Also, .the HD-800 price, and the HE-6 (@ $1199) are wrong, too.  I used to read that magazine at one time.  I never subscribed, but would read it when I stopped at the book stores when I was there to purchase other items.  If they can't correct their Web issues, one has to wonder how many flaws were left in their printed editions?

Also, wasn't the HE-500 only @ $899 for just a few months, before the price drop?

Edit: I also reviewed the reader comments at the end of the article / bottom of the page.  I can't believe on person asked for a review of wireless headphones.  Wow.  Just wow.   I mean, nothing against wireless, but our cables are all about the bling in a lot of cases.

Weight difference between the 2 is 100 gram, what is stuff of the 100 gram other than magnet?

I think it's just the magnet

The only difference is the more contents of magnet, which makes sense in terms of driving efficiency.
But construction may be different to control or shape the spectrum.

Sure but give or take, they are probably very similar, except for the heft, added by the double sided magnets :)

BTW - Those magnets are huge! I have seen them and they are just as huge as the mountings holding them. No extra breathing space. Two solid chunky pieces

They both are double sided
The HE-4 is the only single sided planar from Hifiman (half the 5LE).
