Hello,

Just found this board so i hope you can help me.

I just hate my aweful Corsair Vengeance 1500 and i want a big upgrade.

I have a Xonar Essence ST in my computer.

I will use it:
50% Gaming (mostly fps),
40% Music (Mostly Frank Sinatara atm but i usually prefer old school rap.)
10% Random youtube clips

I generaly prefer closed headphones as i have a bit noice around me but a open one will do if it is much better.

I like the aesthetics of the Sony mdr xb 1000 but i guess it would be a bad choice for me?

I have also looked up the Sennheiser HD 598 bur i dont know how well it will preform in games where i need a bit of bass and how well it will close out unwanted sounds.

So your the experts here and i am open for anything within my budget.

Hi Joakim,

Are you worried about sound leakage or isolation (where you can't hear noise from the outside)? The 598s isolate fairly well so long as the noise isn't overbearing. If it's your roommate Skyping from 10-20 feet away or something similar, you should be fine (had this experience in the past). The sound leakage is probably a bit worse - if you play music/movies/game at louder volumes, people close to you will be able to hear it.

They do great with gaming and performs very well plugged straight in, the soundstage is a huge plus. If you're referring to shooters where you want to "hear" realistic explosions, the 598s are fine. They may not have the huge amount of bass you're looking for, but they place it accurately and you can tell exactly where it's coming from, which I value much more than screamingly loud explosions.

For gaming there are a lot of options, Mids with soundstage:Q701, HD598.
On the cheap but still destroying your Corsair:Samson SR850(Superlux HD668B), Panasonic HTF600, Koss KCS75/35/Portapros.
Movie Theater like experience: Beyerdynamic DT990.
I know there are so many more but these are just the ones I have heard.

Out of those few for listening to Frank I would want the HD598 or Q701. I think the DT990 would be fine for Frank but just wouldn't highlight his vocals.
For old school rap, Beyerdynamic DT990 plain and simple.

Also look here for more ideas and reviews.

So i guess for my use gaming and Frank il be going for the HD598

Really is a great headphone I wish I kept them. I love listening to Portishead and nothing has come close to the joy I have felt with the HD598. Now that I have an amp I wish I could try them again.

For gaming, I think UE6000 ($200) is a good choice. It would be a perfect gaming headphone in active mode.   And the price is quite reasonable for a gaming headphone in my opinion...

How about the Beyerdynamic DT880 Pro 250-Ohm or a used DT880 Premium 600-Ohm.

This.
The DT-880s are easily some of the most versatile headphones around. I enjoyed very much with both gaming and music.

I usually use <64 for my HD558s, but sometimes just for fun, I use 64-300, which has not been a problem.
