Sexy.. damn, it'll be hard choosing between these and a pair isolating set of cans to compliment my th600.
I hope these sound significantly different from the TH series.. even wider soundstage and more monitor-like would be nice

I don't think it's going to be much of a competition given the difference in driver size and age. You might want to listen to the Oppo too.

Well, to my ears T50RP's mods were better than HE-500, so it depends on the listener. Oppo, of course, should be even better, but it's more expensive too.

I partly agree with you as my favorite planars are HE400 and T50RP (though the anticipated ZMF flagship easily surpassed both), but I'm dubious of Fostex' capacity to put out a good open model based on a re-tuned driver and the project smacks of minimal effort for maximum profit.

I do trust fostex has engineers who know a little bit what they're doing and i was quite pleased with the prototype i heard last fall (ir spring? Time flies I don't remember!).

Maybe sounds a bit expensive given the driver existed already but, at least it sounded more balanced (less U shape / tinny) and open to my ears than the th900 nearby.

Having said that, maybe a better deal can be found chasing the usual suspects offering modded t50p. It's not like the price escalation of all headphones in recent years is all justified by ever greater sound .

Reasonable. BTW, I agree with this. When I realised that Fostex didn't change the drivers, I knew I'd pass this new model - we have MrSpeakers, ZMF and LFF
